Thread Lifting Effects

Thread lifting is a procedure in which "medical dissolvable threads" are inserted under the skin to physically lift the skin tissue.

It can be applied to various areas, including the sagging jawline and cheeks, double chin, nasolabial folds, and the wrinkles around the eyes and neck.

There are many different types and products of threads for lifting.

These can largely be divided into three categories.

First, they are classified by ingredient into PDO threads and PLLA threads.

PDO threads gradually dissolve and break down over time after insertion, and their safety has long been recognized to the point that they have been used for cardiac sutures.

PDO threads are further divided into mono threads and cog threads.

Mono threads are smooth threads with no barbs, and they stimulate the skin to help generate collagen and increase skin elasticity.

Cog threads are threads with sharp barbs on them.

These barbs hook onto the skin tissue, allowing direct lifting by pulling in the desired direction.

PLLA is the main ingredient of "Sculptra," known as a collagen booster, and is a "collagen self-formation inducer" that stimulates the body to produce collagen on its own.

Compared with PDO threads, it is more effective at increasing volume, and a representative product is "Silhouette Soft."

Silhouette Soft has corn-shaped barbs and, overall, has strong mobility but a relatively weak holding force.

Mono thread (POD)	A plain PDO (Polydiocanone) thread inserted into the dermal layer to induce collagen regeneration
Cog thread (PDO)	A PDO thread with various types of barbs; inserted into the dermal-subcutaneous fat layer to pull and lift the skin
Cog thread and cone thread (PLLA)	A corn-shaped PLLA (Poly L Lactic Acid) thread inserted into the dermal-subcutaneous fat layer to lift the skin while also helping increase volume through its own collagen-producing ingredient

Thread Lift Side Effects?

The representative side effects of thread lifting are the dimple-like indentation side effect called "dimple" and the threads becoming visibly apparent through the skin, known as "thread visibility."

The effects of thread lifting vary depending on the type of thread, the thickness of the thread, and the thread's material.

However, even more important than that is the insertion point of the thread, as well as the direction and force of pulling.

Even a difference of just 1 mm can make a clearly different result.

As mentioned earlier, problems are more likely to arise if you receive treatment in a "factory-like" setting.
