About the effects of square jaw surgery for men
A board-certified plastic surgeon explains
the effect of gonial angle reduction
in male patients.
Midline Plastic Surgery_Chief Director_Kim Jun-hyun
Hello.
Today, to help men,
I prepared a facial contouring post for men.
Although it is still not many cases,
as I continue sharing information about
proper plastic surgery,
blog visits are increasing as well.

There are far more female patients,
but these days men are also
very interested in their appearance.
That is why many men also come in for
facial contouring consultations, so today,
among concerns about facial contouring,
I will explain the effects of square jaw surgery for men
and the precautions to take during surgery.
In the previous square jaw post, using a female model,
we looked at cases where, when performing square jaw surgery,
jawline and double chin liposuction needed to be done together.
This case is of a man whose square jaw is very (x2) developed.
That is why the result can be so dramatic.
I will now introduce a case
that did not require liposuction,
and was treated with square jaw surgery alone!

When the lower face is large,
and especially when the angle called the gonial angle
is wide and extends downward,
the face can look square.
This is an example photo to help explain the bone angle of a square jaw
^^
It is a costumed appearance of Shin Bora from Gag Concert.
It gives a Thanos vibe.

If you take an X-ray, the square jaw bone would probably be wide,
boxy, and angular.

Like the X-ray above.
The person in the actual X-ray was
under a great deal of stress because of the square jaw.

The square jaw is very developed,
but since there is not much fat around the jaw,
a long osteotomy line
with Midline’s all-round square jaw surgery
was able to improve the appearance.

To add some explanation, square jaw surgery requires
techniques that prevent damage to structures behind the gonial angle.
As a precaution in square jaw surgery,
the retromandibular vein, a large blood vessel,
is present, and if it tears,
hemostasis may be difficult.
That is why square jaw surgery
should be performed by an experienced doctor.

The retromandibular vein is marked in the illustration above.

And the second precaution of square jaw surgery
is that beneath the jawline there is
the submandibular gland,
and if this area is damaged,
saliva can pool under the jaw
and cause problems.
Submandibular gland
Each director will have their own techniques
for avoiding damage to the submandibular gland.
I do as well, of course.
If you are considering square jaw surgery,
esthetic results are important first,
but you should also check whether the clinic
understands the precautions for square jaw surgery
and performs the surgery accordingly.
You will be having surgery to become prettier or more handsome,
so the more important thing is safety first.

These are the before-and-after results of a male patient who had surgery with me.
The surgical method was
all-round square jaw surgery.

The male patient’s square jaw changed
from multiple angles as well.
This was a case where
I was able to create a lower face safely
with square jaw surgery alone.
Thank you.^^
