Brow bone reduction surgery
Frontal bossing reduction surgery
Reducing a protruding brow bone _ Director Kim Jun-hyun
One of the main factors that makes a face look like it gives a strong impression
is a wide, strong jaw,
and the other is a protruding brow bone.
Let me use one of my favorite actors as an example.
.
.
.

Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio
Brad Pitt, with his clearly developed square jaw,
gives off a more masculine, stronger impression than Leonardo DiCaprio in his prime.
He is such a handsome actor no matter when you look at him!
^^
If you look at the brow bone area as well,

If you compare MEN with prominent brow bones and WOMEN with a smooth curve from the forehead to the brow bone,
you can clearly see that a pronounced brow bone gives a more masculine feel.
As you can see, along with a developed square jaw,
a protruding brow bone
gives the impression of a strong face.
It can also make the forehead look sunken,
or make the starting point of the nasal bridge look hollow.

As with our patient in the photos above,
a fair number of women also have a noticeably
protruding brow bone,
and many people want to correct it.
This is because lowering only the brow bone can create a softer forehead line.

A surgery to lower the brow bone area was performed in Spain.
As the brow bone became lower, the strong impression disappeared in the side view,
and you can see that it changed into a softer forehead line.
As shown above, this case is a method for improving brow bone protrusion.
In what cases is brow bone reduction surgery needed?
As I briefly mentioned above, a face with a protruding brow bone tends to have the eyes appear relatively sunken because of the protruding brow area.
Among such cases, if the nasal bridge is also low, the brow bone looks even more prominent.
And of course, when the brow bone protrudes, the area of the forehead above it naturally appears sunken.
Here is the side view of a patient who visited our clinic to improve the strong impression caused by brow bone protrusion.

The area marked with a fluorescent purple arrow
is called the supraorbital ridge in anatomical terms,
and the supra-orbital ridge or frontal bossing in English.
Here, for convenience, I will refer to it as the brow bone.
Brow bone reduction surgery is performed endoscopically
and the reduction is done while directly viewing the area.
If a hospital is skilled in endoscopic forehead lift surgery, it will also be able to perform brow bone reduction surgery without difficulty.
However, the bone in the frontal sinus area cannot be ground down as much as desired.
Why is that?

The area marked in green is the frontal sinus,
which is enclosed by the anterior and posterior walls.
In English, these are called the anterior table and posterior table.

https://surgeryreference.aofoundation.org/cmf/trauma/skull-base-cranial-vault/frontal-sinus-anterior-table/definition
Among the parts that need to be ground down in a protruding brow bone, the inner area corresponds to the inner one-third of each eyebrow, and the anterior table is located in this area.
The thickness of the anterior table is generally greater in men than in women,
and it can also vary from person to person.
The frontal sinus is usually present on both the left and right sides,
but in 10% of people one side is absent,
and in 4% both sides are absent.
The thickness of the anterior table and the presence or absence of the frontal sinus can be identified through radiologic imaging.

That is why our clinic takes radiologic images and makes a surgical plan when reducing the brow bone.
The inner part of the eyebrow where the frontal sinus is located should not be ground down excessively,
and should be finished at an appropriate level,
while the brow bone on the outer side of the eyebrow, where there is no frontal sinus,
can be ground down sufficiently.^^
As in other surgeries, of course,
in brow bone reduction in particular, the frontal sinus is an area that must be handled with great care during surgery.

Before/after brow bone protrusion surgery
These are before-and-after photos of brow bone protrusion reduction surgery.

Before/after brow bone protrusion surgery
If you compare the areas marked with the fluorescent purple arrow
and the fluorescent green arrow,
you can see a softer side view as the brow bone becomes lower.
You can also confirm that the sunken forehead appears less noticeable.
If you want to change a square forehead caused by a prominent brow bone
into a forehead with a soft curve,
surgery to reduce the brow bone may be the answer.

If the brow bone is not protruding,
but the forehead is sunken and the brow bone appears developed,
it may be helpful to refer to the post below.

Brow bone protrusion
It is listed under Endoscopic forehead lift within Anti-aging for a youthful appearance.
I will always do my best with the right surgical methods and with the same care as if I were operating on my own family.
