When you think of Jeju Island, many things come to mind. But since it is located by the sea, it naturally makes you think you should try fresh sashimi or seafood. Even so, I think many people hesitate because they’ve heard so often that Jeju Island is expensive and full of tourist rip-offs, even more so than Seoul. Then, while searching for a trip to Jeju Island, I found a good-value sushi restaurant on Jeju’s west side and decided to visit.

The reason this place is introduced as a good-value sushi restaurant on a Jeju trip is none other than the amount and variety of its side dishes.
These days, it’s hard to find a sushi restaurant that offers such a variety of side dishes, so being able to enjoy different kinds here is what makes people want to come.
Of course, these side dishes are available only when ordering 1 kg, but even if two people go, 1 kg is something they can probably finish.
Of course, it is also enough for 3 to 4 people to eat their fill.

At Black Seagull, a good-value sushi restaurant on Jeju’s west side, the cost varies depending on the market price, but usually you can order 1 kg of red sea bream for 50,000 to 80,000 won, and 1 kg of flatfish (dodaari) for around 45,000 won.
If only a small number of people are visiting, ordering just one type at 1 kg can feel a little disappointing. You want to try other things too. So they also have assorted sashimi, so there’s no need to worry.

Black Seagull, a good-value sushi restaurant on Jeju’s west side, is a place where you can basically enjoy cutlassfish, abalone, and mackerel sashimi. Mackerel sashimi is hard to find unless you’re in Jeju, so it feels nice to be able to try it as one of the side dishes here. That’s because some people can’t eat it due to the fishy smell that mackerel has.
And since seasonal seafood, sushi, and abalone rice are served, before I knew it, I was already full.
Around the time I was getting full, the sashimi came out, but sashimi is delicious in its own way too.
Because Black Seagull is located on the west side, many of the people who visit are staying nearby. Even if your accommodation isn’t close by, if you plan your route to include a stop after seeing Hyeopjae Beach, you’ll be able to enjoy delicious sashimi.
After eating the side dishes and sashimi, I thought there was no more room left in my stomach, but then the fried dish came out.
This fritter made by frying dried shredded squid was just out of the fryer, so I thought I should at least try it. But after taking one bite, I thought, what is this flavor!! It was so tasty that it woke me right up.
In the end, I held on to my full stomach and finished all of the dried shredded squid fritters.

If you eat sashimi, it only makes sense to finish with maeuntang!!
No matter how full you are, if you go back without trying the maeuntang, you’ll inevitably regret not eating it. But this maeuntang was so good that if I hadn’t eaten it, I really would have regretted it. It was a refreshing spicy fish stew with a deep, rich fish flavor, not the taste of seasoning.
Now I understood why people say they leave Black Seagull having gained weight.
Every single dish that comes out is so delicious that you can’t help but eat it.

The weather was also very nice, which made this Jeju trip and visit to Black Seagull even better.
