A Great Restaurant in Okjeong New Town, Yangju, Gyeonggi-do: Coconut Thai Restaurant

There are so many really delicious restaurants opening up in Okjeong New Town, Yangju, Gyeonggi-do. Among them, I heard there was a place that makes tasty rice noodles, which I usually think of as Vietnamese food, so I looked it up and found that it was Coconut Thai Restaurant. If a Thai restaurant’s rice noodles are famous enough to be talked about as delicious, that means they must really be good.

Since it rained over the weekend and the heat eased up a little, I thought this was the perfect time to visit.

Coconut Thai Restaurant in Okjeong New Town is open every day from 11:00 to 22:00, with a break time from 14:30 to 16:30, and it is closed every Tuesday, so it would be good to keep that in mind when visiting.

I went there for the rice noodles, but since it’s a Thai restaurant, of course I had to enjoy some Thai dishes too!!

The poo pad pong curry was so focused on being eaten that I couldn’t take a separate photo of it.

When you think of Thai food, this poo pad pong curry is probably one of the first dishes that comes to mind. Soft shell crab is fried until crispy so you can even eat the shell, and if you like crab dishes, this is probably one of those menu items you’ll end up ordering whenever you visit a Thai restaurant.

As the name Coconut Thai Restaurant suggests, the poo pad pong curry had a strong coconut aroma. We enjoyed it just as a main dish, but I think it would also be really delicious mixed with rice.

Next is the rice noodle dish, which was the reason I ended up visiting Coconut Thai Restaurant.

I was so curious about what was different about Thai-style rice noodles. At first glance, I couldn’t really see any difference. It turns out I’m the only one who thinks of Vietnamese food when I hear rice noodles, and people who have tried Thai rice noodles are already hooked on their taste.

The Thai-style rice noodles with beef, bean sprouts, and bok choy have a rich broth flavor, and since they don’t add cilantro, there isn’t that distinctive Vietnamese spice aroma. Because of that, I think anyone can enjoy them without feeling overwhelmed.

I could see why this place became known as a rice noodle hot spot.

Morning glory is one of those dishes you really can’t leave out when talking about Thai food.

Morning glory was so strongly seasoned that at first I was a little surprised when I tried it, thinking it was just like a Korean vegetable side dish. Later, I found out it was a side dish that could be called Thailand’s kimchi.

Because of its crisp texture, even though I know it’s salty, I still somehow end up ordering it every time.

I also ordered pad thai, which is probably the most approachable dish in Thai cuisine. As expected, the pad thai was really delicious.

Usually, if it’s meat, it’s just meat, and if it’s seafood, it’s just seafood, but at Coconut Thai Restaurant in Okjeong New Town, the pad thai had both meat and shrimp, which made it taste even better. There was plenty of noodles, and I was also glad that I could enjoy plenty of bean sprouts, so this was a really satisfying pad thai.

Coconut Thai Restaurant, a popular spot in Okjeong New Town, Yangju, Gyeonggi-do, has a Thai chef, so I think you can definitely experience more of the local flavor there.

Honestly, nothing we ordered was not delicious, and everything was tasty, so every time we ate, we kept saying how delicious it was.
