Because of COVID social distancing, I had put off meeting people while going about my daily life, and then the day finally came when the restrictions were eased. I thought that once distancing was relaxed, I would meet all the people I hadn’t been able to see, but more people than I expected didn’t end up meeting after all.
After spending time like that, I met with people whose faces I thought I might forget. It had been a long time since we’d seen each other, and after debating where to go, we headed out at the tail end of crab season. We decided to meet at Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, where you can enjoy plenty of delicious queen crab, which tastes great no matter when you eat it. It had been a while since I last visited Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, and it had really changed a lot.
It was fun to look around the fish market, too. Since everything ultimately came down to crab anyway, I think I mostly just looked at crab while browsing. The outside and inside of Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market have become cleaner, but the calls of “Come in, we’ll take good care of you” are still the same. I think that’s part of Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market’s charm.
To avoid being taken advantage of, I searched and searched until we had decided where to go, so we headed straight for our destination. And at the place we arrived at, we chose queen crab!!
At Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, queen crab is charged by the kilogram at market price, so please keep in mind that the price can vary from day to day.
Some people buy it live and steam it at home, and some have it steamed there and take it home. Since we were going to enjoy it at Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market, after paying for the crab, we took it up to the second floor, where they put it in a steamer and cook it. At this time, the basic table setting and the steaming fee are charged separately.
After waiting about 30 minutes, the nicely cooked queen crab appeared before our eyes.

Separating the crab was not difficult. The well-steamed crab could be cut apart with scissors. Since it was the tail end of crab season, I worried that the meat might not be very thick, but I don’t know why I even had that concern. It was packed with meat, so I really ate as much as I wanted.
One of the good things about eating at Noryangjin Fisheries Wholesale Market is that there are many ways to enjoy the crab shell. Usually, people make fried rice with the innards, but you can also cook ramen together with the shrimp and clams received as a complimentary service.
Whichever option you choose, I think it would be a satisfying feast.

Since we chose to eat the complimentary shrimp and clams as steamed dishes, we naturally put the innards stuck to the crab shell into fried rice. To call it a complimentary service, there was really a huge amount of clams and shrimp. I even wondered whether they still had anything left after giving us so much. Thanks to that, we ate incredibly well.
