Jumunjin Restaurant Selected by KBS 6 o’clock hometown: Daege Hanmadang

Many people seem to travel to Gangneung and Sokcho for vacation. These places have lots to see, but they also have plenty of food, so they seem to be emerging as hot travel destinations these days. There were really so many people surfing. I do want to try surfing someday, but today I focused a little more on a food trip. There are many foods that come to mind when you think of Gangneung, but personally, I think of fresh raw fish and seafood.

So, after thinking about where to go, I visited Daege Hanmadang, a Jumunjin restaurant selected by KBS 6 o’clock hometown.

I visited the main branch of Daege Hanmadang Jumunjin. It is located on the coastal road, so you can see the sea right from the restaurant. The view while eating was really nice. I think that made the food feel even more delicious. After all, there is something enjoyable about the view too.

Jumunjin restaurant Daege Hanmadang sells seafood by market price. That was the cost when we visited. What was really great was that there was no table setting fee.

The dishes we ordered started coming out one by one. Since there was no table setting fee, I thought maybe only very basic items would be provided, but that was not the case. Squid and chive pancake, turban shell, shrimp, and even boiled octopus were served. I guess that is why it is called a famous Jumunjin restaurant.

Jumunjin is also famous for squid, so we ordered squid sashimi as well. Since we had come all this way, it seemed best to eat the things known to be delicious. In fact, Daege Hanmadang in Jumunjin is a place many people visit for king crab rather than sashimi, as the name suggests, but since there were quite a few of us, we ordered sashimi too. Maybe because it is right by the sea, the sashimi was chewy and delicious as expected.

Then the king crab we had been waiting for came out boiled. It looks delicious just by looking at it, right?!

The king crab has a sweet, tender, and savory taste, and once you start eating one piece, before you know it, you are already reaching for another. What I liked about Daege Hanmadang in Jumunjin was that you did not have to crack the crab open yourself. They neatly cut it for us, so when you broke it apart, the springy meat was revealed, and we could enjoy the king crab without wasting a single bit.

If you have eaten king crab, there is one thing you absolutely cannot leave out!! It is this crab shell fried rice.

They cooked it to time it with when we were finishing the king crab, which was nice because we could fully enjoy the crab and sashimi cleanly. If crab shell fried rice comes out together, you end up eating rice, so the sweetness in your mouth gets added to and you cannot fully taste the sashimi and king crab.

We did not have to wonder why the crab shell fried rice was not coming out because they brought it at just the right time on their own. They must be so experienced that they know exactly when it is time.

Squid sashimi, king crab, and sashimi alone would have been enough, but I ordered crab ramen because it is one of those dishes you cannot stop thinking about if you do not try it. After deciding to go to Daege Hanmadang once I set my Jumunjin trip, I looked up what I should eat so I could say I ate well, and many people highly praised this crab ramen right after the king crab. The ramen itself is tasty, and a whole crab is added to it, so you can already imagine how refreshing the broth taste is without even trying it.

I really ordered it just to taste it, but I almost regretted not ordering it. I slightly regretted ordering 1 instead of 2.

If I go again next time, I will definitely order 2.

Since Gangneung is a travel destination, if you do not know a place well, it can feel like you are being overcharged, and there are also cases where you end up disappointed. But Jumunjin restaurant Daege Hanmadang is truly a place I would visit again if I ever return to Jumunjin.
