Domestic Travel in Taean: Afternoon Sea Pension Is Great Because It’s Near the Beach

I think Taean is one of the best places to visit in Korea for a 1-night, 2-day trip. People who have been to Taean once say they keep thinking about it because they fall in love with its unique charm. I, too, became so captivated by Taean after my trip there that I started missing it constantly. When I chose Taean as my destination for a short domestic trip, the first thing I looked into was accommodation. Since Taean has become famous as a tourist destination, there were so many different types of lodging to choose from. I decided on a pension in Taean. Hotels and resorts are nice too, but I would definitely recommend a pension if you want to experience that distinctive pension atmosphere.

The Taean pension I chose was a place called Afternoon Sea.

The price range was from 90,000 won to 160,000 won, and since it is located just 30 seconds from the beach, one advantage is that you can use an ocean-view room. The reception area was so beautifully designed that I wondered if this really was a pension. I could see why so many people recommend Afternoon Sea when talking about pensions in Taean. When I was looking into pensions, the rooms also seemed clean in the photos. I hadn’t gone into the room yet, but even from the interior I could sense the owner’s good taste, and it seemed like the room condition would be good too.

There was an unexpected gift waiting for us. It was the bagels prepared by Afternoon Sea in Taean. Something small like this becomes a lasting memory after a trip, so I was really touched. Thanks to that, I want to say it made the trip enjoyable.

One of the good things about a pension is that you can cook and eat your own food. Since it was a short 1-night, 2-day trip, we spent more time sightseeing outside than staying at the pension, so we didn’t cook, but everything was neatly arranged.

There were even three kinds of pots and two cutting boards. And above all, I liked that they provided a new scrub sponge and dishcloth.

Doesn’t the bathroom feel kind of cozy? It has that feeling of a bathroom you might see at your grandparents’ house!! Still, there is a shower booth, and the three amenities—shampoo, rinse, and body cleanser—were prepared as well.

Of course, towels, a toothbrush, and toothpaste were also provided. At this point, can’t you call it a resort rather than a pension?!

The bed that would take care of our night is placed by the window. Afternoon Sea Pension has a high ceiling, so the room may seem small, but it doesn’t feel cramped or stuffy. Even the lights weren’t basic fixtures. Looking at each detail, you can tell they really paid attention to the interior design.

We went around Taean and came back after sunset, so we couldn’t see the sea clearly through the window, but I liked the gentle sound of the waves. It’s also an attractive pension because you can wake up and see the sea right away.

Afternoon Sea Pension in Taean also has a swimming pool, but since the beach is only a 30-second walk away, many people spend the day playing in the sea. There is a path from Afternoon Sea to the beach, and since you might accidentally come back in the wrong direction after playing by the water, there is a signboard for Afternoon Sea. Because the schedule was only 1 night and 2 days, we satisfied our regret with a short walk along the beach.

This is probably why so many people who visit Taean for domestic travel say they want to go back again. It’s a place that’s good for a 1-night, 2-day trip, but even one night still leaves you wanting more. Maybe that’s just how travel is—whether it’s long or short, it always leaves you with a sense of regret.
