Hello.
This is Iho Plastic Surgery, a place where you can become beautiful again.
Unlike a typical surgical process, plastic surgery focuses on addressing appearance-related concerns or flaws. In particular, eyes are the first feature people notice when facing someone, to the point that they can be considered a standard of beauty. For those who are concerned about their appearance, they are an important factor. More and more people are considering eye surgery to create a favorable first impression. However, because it is seen as a relatively approachable procedure, there are also many who consider revision surgery due to unexpected side effects or problems after surgery.
If many of you are planning double eyelid revision surgery for various reasons, I would like to share information and carefully check the timing of revision surgery and post-operative care so that you can make a decision that leads to a positive outcome.

Types of double eyelid revision surgery
· When the double eyelid crease is too low and you want it higher
· When the double eyelid crease is too high and you want it lower
· When you want to correct a so-called sausage eye
· When fixation is deep and scarring is severe
· When the two sides are asymmetrical
· When the double eyelid crease has loosened
The reasons people come in after deciding to have revision eye surgery vary.

Eyes that are easy vs. difficult to revise

Eyes that are relatively easy to revise are those with little scarring and soft tissue, or those with thin skin and plenty of tissue. In such cases, revision surgery is a somewhat easier case to handle.

Eyes that are difficult to revise are those with thick skin, severe scarring and adhesion, or no extra tissue available. Because the range of possible changes is limited, these are relatively difficult cases.

Is there a good time for revision surgery?

In general, the right time for double eyelid revision surgery is after six months have passed since the previous operation.

However, some people can have surgery at six months, while others cannot. Of course, there are also cases where it is done earlier.

If surgery can be done before six months, then among those who want quick correction because the results were unsatisfactory, revision is possible after 3 to 5 months if the procedure was non-incisional, there is not much remaining adhesion, scarring is not severe, and the tissue condition is acceptable.

On the other hand, there are cases where revision surgery cannot be done even after six months.
If there is insufficient tissue and severe scarring and adhesion, revision surgery may still not be possible even after six months. If the skin tissue or scar tissue is hard and the color is still red and poor in appearance, it is better to proceed after the area has stabilized.

Therefore, rather than after six months, it may need to be done after one year, one and a half years, or two years for the desired appearance to be achieved.

You may want to proceed with revision surgery as soon as possible, but the correct timing should be determined according to the patient’s current condition in order to achieve a satisfactory prognosis.

Do not think that the timing for revision eye surgery is simply six months after the first operation; depending on your condition, it may be done much later than six months or even before six months. Therefore, it is important to understand the current state of tissue and skin damage, have your eye condition carefully examined, and visit a clinic where medical staff can provide a stable process and consultation.

Revision timing: 2 years?!
That’s too long ㅠㅠ
Can’t it be done sooner?

The reason we can decide that the possible timing for revision eye surgery is not necessarily six months, and that it may be sooner or much later, is based on experience.
Doctors with less experience may sometimes perform it right after six months, but there can be cases where the tissue condition worsens over a period of 1 to 2 years or even longer. However, there is another factor that must be considered here.

The patient’s mental health condition!!

If the patient’s mental health condition is very poor, there are cases where revision eye surgery is performed a little earlier even if the tissue has not fully stabilized to the best possible condition.

Given the current condition, we can say when it would be better to do it.
You may need to wait a little before proceeding with the procedure.
By spending enough time with the patient and fully understanding their condition, it is possible to adjust the timing so that we can explain these points.

Just because it can be moved up a little does not mean it can always be brought forward.
It may be possible to advance it depending on the situation, but it cannot be advanced unreasonably. For example, although it may be better to do it after two years, and a comprehensive evaluation suggests that one year later would be possible even if it is not ideal, if the patient insists on having it done after six months and the surgery is carried out at six months against better judgment, a poor result may occur. So it cannot be brought forward too aggressively.

You can understand revision eye surgery timing as something that can be adjusted, but not forced forward excessively.

Has the frequency of revision eye surgery increased compared to before?

To start with the conclusion, it seems clear that the frequency of revision eye surgery has increased compared to the past.

Because most people think eye surgery is easy, the barrier to entry has become lower. Younger people also see it as something easy to choose and approach, so the age at which surgery is performed has become much younger. Since surgery is being done even at a young age (middle school students), it is inevitable that more people come back for revision surgery in their twenties or thirties.

But the more eye surgery is performed, the harder the surgery becomes. Of course, some cases are simple, but there is nothing as difficult as high-difficulty eye surgery. It is that delicate, and the difficulty increases with revision surgery.

Because patients who had surgery from doctors with less experience may not have received the best results, revision surgery becomes more common. Therefore, it is important to have abundant experience and know-how with various eye shapes and to accurately determine the right method and harmonious design.

Is the recovery period for revision eye surgery
the same as the first surgery?

In the case of revision surgery, because it is being performed again after the muscles and tissue were already handled in the previous surgery, people naturally think swelling and recovery take longer than with the first surgery.

However, having revision eye surgery does not necessarily mean the recovery period is longer.

If the surgery is performed with careful hemostasis, minimal handling of tissue, less damage, and delicate manipulation, then depending on the individual, it can become natural within 1 to 2 weeks.

At our clinic, we do not usually speak of swelling and recovery as taking especially long.
Whether it is non-incisional, incisional, or revision surgery, we say the recovery period is 1 to 2 weeks.

Normally, it is true that incisional surgery or revision surgery takes much longer, but that does not always apply.
