Hello.
This is Eyehos Plastic Surgery, where you can start fresh again.
Because the eyes are an important part of a first impression, many people consider eye surgery to create a more positive impression. Also, since it is easy to meet people around you who have had eye surgery, many people tend to think of eye surgery as something simple.
However, just because friends around you had successful results does not guarantee that you will also be satisfied. So if you want to improve a complex through double eyelid surgery, we recommend that you look into it carefully before trying. Otherwise, you may end up worrying about revision eyelid surgery.
Eye-specialized Eyehos Plastic Surgery is known as a hospital specializing in revision eyelid surgery, so many people visit us for that purpose. We will explain the most commonly mentioned side effects of eye surgery and the corresponding solutions.
Top 3 Side Effects of Eye Surgery
-
Sausage-like eyes
-
Asymmetry
-
Severe scarring

If we pick the top 3 side effects of eye surgery, these are the most frequently mentioned issues, and they are also the reasons many people come in for consultations to improve them.

-
Sausage-like eyes
-
Asymmetry
-
Severe scarring

Among those who visit for revision surgery due to these side effects and issues, some cases can be improved completely, while others cannot.
The reason is that, for example, if the surgical scar is very severe, the only way to remove it is to excise the severely scarred area and then bring the surrounding skin together. That can eliminate the scar.
However, if there is not enough excess skin, the scar cannot be cut out, so it cannot be removed.

Therefore, while it may not be possible to eliminate side effects 100%, if you come in expecting about 80–90% improvement, your satisfaction can actually be close to 100%.

Sausage-like eyes

It can be said that many people who are considering revision surgery are doing so because of side effects that make their eyes look sausage-like.
Externally, the eyes may look thick and as if swelling is still present, like sausage-like eyes. But if you examine the condition carefully, you can see that the causes are all different.
-
The fixation is very deep, and there is a large amount of tissue beneath the double eyelid line
-
The adhesion of the double eyelid line is very weak, causing the tissue itself to sag downward
-
The double eyelid line is fixed too high, resulting in too much of the visible area being exposed

Because the causes are different, the solutions must also be carried out differently in order to achieve satisfactory results.

If there is too much tissue beneath the double eyelid line, the tissue should be appropriately reduced. If the double eyelid fixation is weak, the fixation should be strengthened again. Conversely, if the fixation is too strong, it can be loosened to create a more natural eye shape.

Asymmetry

Next, many people come in to improve asymmetry.

There are also various types of asymmetry.
-
The double eyelid height differs between the two eyes
-
The amount of tissue differs
-
The strength used to open the eyes differs between the two eyes
-
One double eyelid has loosened

If the double eyelid line is asymmetric because the amount of tissue on each side is different, the solution is to use the same design and adjust the amount of tissue.
If the asymmetry is due to a difference in eye-opening strength, a procedure to strengthen the eye-opening ability should be performed together.

If the asymmetry is caused by a loosened double eyelid, it is necessary to determine which surgical method was used previously. Taking into account skin thickness, the amount of fat, and eye-opening strength, if the first surgery was done with a buried suture method, it can be corrected by switching to an incision method and reinforcing the fixation. If it was already done with an incision method but still loosened, there is a high possibility that ptosis was present but not identified, and only double eyelid surgery was performed. In that case, we recommend receiving a careful consultation from eye-specialized medical staff before proceeding.

Severe scarring

Since the eyes are where people’s gaze tends to linger the longest when meeting someone, severe scarring is naturally a source of stress.
To improve severe scars, the existing scar is excised and clean skin is sutured.

However, if there is not enough excess skin, there may be visible scarring, and scar tissue can also make the scar look more severe. In such cases, releasing the adhesion inside the scar to flatten it while forming the line can lead to improvement compared to before.
Because the surgical method must be applied differently depending on the side effects, it is important to receive a thorough consultation from a board-certified plastic surgeon with extensive revision eyelid surgery experience and accumulated know-how.

Postoperative precautions

Even if the surgery goes well, it is difficult to expect satisfactory results if postoperative care is not properly followed. That is why it is important to strictly follow the precautions given by the hospital after surgery.
In one sentence: Be careful!!

After eye surgery, you should avoid sudden bleeding by not doing strenuous exercise right away or bending your upper body forward so that blood rushes to your face. Also, you should not drink alcohol or smoke for one month.
You should avoid tossing and turning in your sleep, bumping into things, or unconsciously rubbing your eyes.
