Garnet Plastic Surgery Director Baek In-soo's
Doctor's Note

Hello! I am Baek In-soo, the director of Garnet Plastic Surgery and a board-certified plastic surgeon.
Today’s case is about a female patient in her 30s who visited the clinic due to facial asymmetry and a crooked nose.

She said that facial asymmetry had developed since childhood,
and that her nose was also bent in the same direction, causing her a lot of stress.
Preoperative diagnosis

From the front, the nose appears somewhat upturned, and it is a little short and low.
When facial asymmetry is present, the tip of the nose often tends to flow in line with the asymmetry of the mouth.

When the chin feels as if it is flowing to the right,
the nose also tends to feel as if it is flowing to the right in the direction of the chin.
For an inverted C-shaped crooked nose, it is important to clearly identify the facial midline and design accordingly.
Surgical process

First, the crooked nose is corrected to match the designed facial midline.
Then, the deviated nasal septum is corrected to address the crooked appearance of the nasal tip.
Next, the elevated right alar cartilage is lowered,
and surgery is performed to make the positions of both alar cartilages symmetrical.
The bridge of the nose is raised using an implant,
and it must be carefully refined to reflect the left-right difference in the nasal bones.
Postoperative course

From the front, the crooked areas were improved,
and the difference in the height of both alar areas was also greatly reduced.
The symptom of the upturned nose, where the nostrils were visible, was also improved.
From the side and at 45 degrees, the short nose was corrected, creating a more extended line from the nasal bridge to the tip,
and the added height to the bridge made the result more satisfying.
From below, the asymmetry of the nostrils also became symmetrical.
After the rhinoplasty, the facial asymmetry also felt improved.
In closing

Today, we looked at correction of a crooked nose when facial asymmetry is present.
Many people have a crooked nose even without any particular history of nasal injury.
If your facial asymmetry appears more severe because of a crooked nose,
and you are feeling stressed about it, I hope today’s case will be helpful to you.
Thank you.
