The main reason people in their middle age or older visit a plastic surgery clinic is usually for anti-aging purposes, but surprisingly, many also come for nose surgery.
Usually, the most common reason for deciding on nose surgery after middle age is that they have had a long-standing complex about their nose since they were young. After enduring the desire to have surgery for a long time, they decide to undergo an operation when their external or internal circumstances change, or when there is a psychological shift. In such cases, some people say they want to completely change their image through surgery. In my case, because a person already has an image built over the course of their life, I recommend not breaking the harmony with their face, and I usually advise pursuing a natural change that resolves the complex.
The second case is when people visit the clinic for revision surgery because they were not satisfied with the nose surgery they had when they were younger. In the past, rhinoplasty techniques were not as advanced, so the surgery may not have been done in the direction they wanted. Or, since there was a trend in the past that emphasized the bridge of the nose more than the tip, the result may be somewhat far from the attractive nose shape that is preferred today, leading them to undergo revision surgery.
Lastly, there are cases where they previously had an incorrect surgery or developed complications over a long period after nose surgery. In the past, many nose surgeries used L-shaped silicone implants, and this could lead to various complications such as thinning skin, visible implants, a tip that appears lifted due to long-term contracture changes, or a bent implant. In such cases, it is best to diagnose the cause through sufficient preoperative examinations, carefully assess the current condition inside the nose, and then determine the surgical method.
It is easy to think that recovery after plastic surgery will be slower and inflammation will occur more often simply because a person is older, but recovery ability is almost the same as in younger people. In fact, because they tend to take better care of themselves, the chance of complications caused by being unable to control alcohol and smoking after surgery, as younger people often do, is lower.
