When counseling patients about anti-aging, most of the discussion tends to focus on the face, but there are also many people who want to correct aging in the neck.
In the past, especially those who had long, attractive necks, used to enjoy wearing clothes that showed the neck or wearing accessories such as necklaces when they were young. But as they get older, there are cases where they say they start wearing clothes that cover the neck because of neck wrinkles.

I once saw a video saying that celebrities also receive regular care for facial wrinkles and skin management, but the neck is an area that is difficult to manage sufficiently, so they feel a lot of stress about skin sagging and wrinkles on the neck.

'Neck Aging and the Classification of the Platysma'
The most important factor in neck wrinkles and aging is the muscle that supports the neck, called the platysma.
The elasticity and shape of the platysma can be divided into three types.
The three types of platysma.
Among the three types of platysma, Type 2 has the best support. If you are born with this type of platysma, neck aging may be delayed. However, it is said that only about 15% of people have this type.
Most people have Type 1, and some of them may change to Type 3, the least favorable type, as they age.
'Two Neck Lift Procedures Performed with a Facelift'
As many people already know, the most important thing in a facelift is not pulling up the sagging skin, but properly lifting the deep facial layer called the SMAS.

As shown in the figure above, the SMAS layer of the face and the platysma of the neck are located on the same plane.
For that reason, just as it is important to properly lift the SMAS layer in a facelift, restoring the elasticity of the platysma, which corresponds to the SMAS layer of the neck, is important in order to eliminate neck wrinkles.
A neck lift can be performed on its own at a younger age, but in middle-aged and older adults who are experiencing facial aging, it is more effective when performed together with a facelift.

Through an additional posterior extension incision from the facelift incision line, the platysma can be lifted and sagging skin can be addressed. Also, through a small 2–3 cm incision under the chin, the platysma can be tied together to improve neck elasticity.

Many people who come for facelift consultations are also stressed about neck wrinkles.
If you are considering a facelift to correct facial aging, you can add a neck lift to lift a sagging neck, known as pelican surgery.
Of course, a neck lift can be performed separately on its own, but when a neck lift is performed together with a facelift, the advantage is that there is no additional recovery period.
