Checklist to Prepare Before Hair Transplant Surgery

Hello, this is Dana Plastic Surgery.
Not long ago, we looked into the things you should definitely know before visiting a hair transplant clinic for a consultation.
For those who have decided to proceed with surgery through the consultation,
you may now be wondering what to prepare before surgery
and what needs to be checked.
Today,
let’s take a look with Director Park Jae-hyun at the checklist you should know and prepare in advance before hair transplant surgery.

- For non-incision surgery, shaving is done at the hospital on the day of surgery
If you are having a non-incision procedure,
and you have decided to shave,
there may be various types of shaving, such as a full shave, a Marine Corps-style shave, or a partial shave with a two-block cut.

Whatever shaving method is chosen,
the shaving is done at the hospital on the day of surgery,
so even if you go to a hair salon beforehand and spend money on it,
it will be pointless because the hospital has a specific range and length that it wants.
So, for a shave that suits each person,
the hospital will shave you on the day of surgery,
so there is no need to do it in advance.
Also, in the case of the incision method, shaving is not necessary.
For those who are having an incision procedure or a partial shave/two-block style,
Director Park Jae-hyun said it is good to keep the top hair long so it can cover the surgical area.

- Dyeing and perming are OK before surgery
Dyeing or perming
is fine before surgery.
However,
for those with a lot of gray hair,
it is helpful to dye the hair carefully in advance.
When there is a lot of gray hair,
at the time of transplantation,
the scalp and gray hair do not contrast in color,
so it is hard to see clearly,
and this increases the possibility of follicle damage.

When dyeing, it is better to carefully color not only the donor area but also the transplant area.
In the case of non-incision surgery,
since hair within 1 mm of the outer skin is used,
please tell the salon to make sure the dye reaches carefully close to the scalp.
Hair products such as gel and wax
may be used, but
you should come on the day of surgery without using them,
as it makes the procedure easier.

- Wigs can be worn starting 3 to 4 days after surgery
Director Park Jae-hyun said
that wearing a wig is possible starting 3 to 4 days after surgery.

Also, during the consultation,
it is a good idea to check whether you wear a wig
and have it confirmed in advance,
and on the day of surgery as well,
it is good to bring your wig
and check whether it can be worn.

- Check in advance when to stop taking medications, depending on the type
Medications that are recommended to be stopped in advance before surgery
include vitamins and health supplements,
because they may cause bleeding during surgery.
That is why it is recommended to stop taking them 1 to 2 weeks in advance.
Three days before surgery,
smoking and drinking are recommended to be stopped,
and if you are taking aspirin or warfarin due to cardiovascular issues or other health problems,
aspirin should be stopped 5 to 7 days before,
and warfarin should be stopped 3 days before,
he said.
Hair loss medication can be continued without stopping.
