Frequently Asked Questions After Hair Transplant Surgery

Hello,
this is Dana Plastic Surgery.
This time, together with Director Park Jae-hyeon,
we will take a look at the list of the most frequently asked questions after hair transplant surgery.

- How should I sleep after surgery?
After hair transplant surgery,
it is best to sleep in a comfortable position that allows you to get as much rest as possible,
but positions that stretch the transplanted area are not allowed.
In particular, after sideburn transplantation, sleeping on your side,
or after hairline transplantation, sleeping face down,
are sleeping positions that must be avoided.

Also,
Director Park Jae-hyeon
said it is good to place 2–3 towels
on a soft pillow and sleep on it.
If the donor area is very painful in some cases,
using a neck pillow
so that the donor area is suspended in the air
is also fine.

- What should I do if delayed bleeding occurs after hair transplant surgery?
Delayed bleeding in the back of the head
can occur on the first night after surgery
more often with the non-incision method than with the incision method.
In this case,
don't be too alarmed,
and if you gently press the bleeding area with clean gauze or a towel
for about 5 minutes,
most cases will stop bleeding,
aid Director Park Jae-hyeon said.
Still,
if the bleeding continues or you have any discomfort,
please refer to the guide provided after surgery,
such as the emergency contact list and precautions,
or contact the hospital,
and you will receive a quick response.

- What if the surgical area still hurts even after taking the prescribed medication?
The prescribed medication includes
antibiotics, pain relievers, and anti-inflammatory drugs.
If the pain at the surgical site continues
even after taking the prescribed medication,
you may additionally take a pain reliever (= Tylenol)
or contact the hospital.

- What if my face is so swollen that daily life becomes difficult?
Bruising or swelling around the eyes is actually
a surprisingly rare occurrence at our hospital.
Even if, in the very rare case,
the swelling comes down to below the eyebrows,
it will go away within a few days,
so there is no need to worry too much.
Also,
if you feel discomfort due to swelling,
please contact the hospital right away.
We provide treatment that helps reduce swelling.

- When will the redness and scabs disappear?
Redness usually disappears within 10 days.
It usually takes a few days,
but depending on the individual's constitution and characteristics,
for some people it may last for several months.
Also, scabs
are red due to blood after surgery,
but over the course of 2–3 days they gradually turn into dark brown scabs.
Scabs must not be removed before 10 days after surgery.
After that,
please soften the scabs with lukewarm water and gently remove them gradually.
