Hello, this is Dana Plastic Surgery 😁
Today, we’ll take some time to learn about the reasons for postpartum hair loss and when to correct the hairline.

Q. I’m thinking about getting hairline correction. Is it better before or after childbirth?
The timing of hairline correction does not differ much before and after childbirth.

If you were considering hairline correction before childbirth,
it would be best to have hairline surgery as soon as possible.
Later, when postpartum hair loss occurs, the front hairline often becomes thinner,
so getting hairline correction in advance may help with postpartum hair loss.

However, if you were not very interested in hairline correction before childbirth,
and after childbirth the fine hairs at the hairline fall out and do not recover,
or if you feel like the hairline is receding, you may begin to feel the need for hairline correction. In that case, it is fine to have it done after childbirth.

Q. I suspect female hair loss after childbirth. When does it usually happen?

It usually starts around 2 to 3 months after childbirth.
Around the time you take your baby’s 100-day photos, you may notice that the hairline looks thinner or
that overall hair density seems to have decreased significantly.

Between 6 months and 1 year, it is expected to return to normal before the naturally occurring hair loss,
and by the time you take your baby’s first birthday photos, about 95% of it has usually recovered.

Q. Why does female hair loss happen after childbirth?

Postpartum hair loss is known as one type of telogen effluvium,
but not all hair loss after childbirth is caused by postpartum hair loss.
It may also be telogen effluvium caused by various nutritional deficiencies or stress.

What is postpartum hair loss?
During pregnancy, estrogen rises to more than 8 to 9 times its usual level.
It gradually increases as pregnancy progresses through the first, second, and third trimesters.

During pregnancy, the hair growth phase becomes longer, and some hair may become thicker.
Within a week after childbirth, hormones change rapidly, and the hairs that had not fallen out during that time
enter the resting phase after passing through the regression phase, which is postpartum hair loss.

Postpartum hair loss usually occurs evenly across the entire scalp.
Still, clinically, many patients come in for surgery because
the front hairline has weakened and they feel as if their forehead has moved back.
For those who are worried about when to have hairline correction due to postpartum hair loss,
it is best to visit the clinic for a consultation and proceed with surgery in a way that suits each individual 😊
