Hello, this is Dana Plastic Surgery. 😊
Today, we will take some time to look at the frog-egg-like bumps that appear in the transplant area after hair transplant surgery.

After a hair transplant, why does the transplant area sometimes rise up in small round bumps like frog eggs?

Some people may have heard that if frog-egg-like bumps form after a hair transplant, it means the surgery was done incorrectly.
First of all, that is incorrect information. 😊

Frog-egg-like bumps are generally not something that occurs in strip surgery,
but rather a phenomenon that appears in FUE.

In FUE, follicles are extracted with a punch,
and when the epidermis attached after removing the follicle with a cylindrical punch is transplanted,
the shape of the epidermis can look like a frog egg.

When transplanting with an implanter, if the epidermis is trimmed and then transplanted, or
in some cases when transplanting with forceps and the epidermis is trimmed,
frog-egg-like bumps do not form.
However, for most doctors who use forceps, and in implanter or DNI methods,
when the epidermis is left attached and transplanted, frog-egg-like bumps usually form.
Worldwide, the formation of frog-egg-like bumps is a common surgical phenomenon in FUE.

The form in which frog-egg-like bumps appear is explained by the photo above.
Strip surgery tends to have a teardrop or cylindrical shape,
while FUE tends to have an inverted triangular shape, similar to a mushroom.
We start from this difference.
In FUE, should the mushroom-shaped epidermis be left on, or not?
If the epidermis is left on, the frog-egg-like bump is visible; if it is not left on, it is not visible.

So, it is a very simple choice: whether to trim the epidermis before transplanting, or to transplant it without trimming and allow the frog-egg-like bump to be visible.
However, among those who leave the frog-egg-like bumps, it can be seen as a difference in how they understand the pros and cons well
and apply each advantage and disadvantage to the surgery.
