Hello
This is Dana Plastic Surgery!
This time, I’d like to share information about pain after hair transplant surgery.
Is hair transplant surgery very painful?
How much pain is there with incision/non-incision procedures?

On the first day after surgery, about 1/3 of people say it doesn’t hurt as much as they expected.
However, because pain is subjective,
it is hard to know who will feel no pain.
Another 1/3 say it hurts quite a bit,
and 1/3 say it hurts a great deal.

Those who say it hurts a great deal
say that on the first day, it was so painful that they had trouble falling asleep at night,
on the second day, they woke up occasionally,
and on the third day, it improved a lot and they slept well.

With non-incision surgery, the pain
is not very noticeable from the first day,
there is almost no pain on the second day,
and by the third day, they say it is at a level where they no longer notice it.
Can I take painkillers after a hair transplant?

Except for a small number of people who truly say it hurts a lot,
most people feel fine after taking a painkiller like Tylenol.
And if the pain is really severe,
or if you are very concerned because you have very little tolerance for pain,
please let us know in advance, and we may prescribe a stronger painkiller.

Compared with incision surgery, non-incision surgery causes less pain,
and there are almost no people who say it hurts after non-incision surgery.

The pain from non-incision surgery
is just a slight stinging at the punch site for 1–2 days.

Among those who say it hurts after non-incision surgery,
there are occasionally people who are very sensitive to pain,
but these cases are very rare.

After both incision and non-incision procedures, you can sleep lying flat on your back.
However, since blood may seep out, it is better to place a towel underneath
and use a soft cotton pillow.
You should avoid sleeping face down, as swelling may shift toward the face.
My donor area hurts too much after a hair transplant!

If the donor area pain is severe,
you can support your neck with a neck pillow to keep the surgical area elevated
and sleep with only your neck supported.

Or, if you sleep with your upper body slightly raised, like in a recliner chair,
it is a little better than lying flat on a bed.

One of the biggest reasons people choose non-incision surgery
is the pain.
If you are very sensitive to pain,
we recommend choosing non-incision surgery.
