Hello
This is Dana Plastic Surgery!
This time, we’ll explain the differences between hair transplantation in the East and the West.
How Is Hair Transplantation Different by Race?
Differences Between Eastern and Western Hair Transplantation ①

Hair transplantation for Koreans
is very different from surgery for other races.

The first difference between Eastern and Western hair transplantation is,
there is a difference in the density of hair in the back of the head.

There are significantly fewer hairs in the back-of-the-head donor area.

Differences Between Eastern and Western Hair Transplantation ②

The second difference between Eastern and Western hair transplantation is
scalp show-through.
Because hair density cannot be counted with the naked eye,
the amount of scalp visible between the hairs is used
to visually judge the "degree of hair loss" or the "success of a hair transplant procedure."

Scalp show-through is especially noticeable in Koreans.

Scalp show-through refers to
the amount of light reflecting off the light-colored scalp
that can be seen between the hairs.

In the case of Westerners,
there is not much contrast between scalp color and hair color,
so there is not much scalp show-through.

Among Asians as well,
Koreans, Japanese, and Chinese people
have the lightest skin tones,
and because their hair is black, straight, and not very curly,
they tend to have the most pronounced scalp show-through.
We’ll continue to look at the differences in hair transplantation by race
in the next part!
