Hello. This is Repton Dermatology in Sinsa-dong.
These days, as many people have become increasingly interested in skin care, the number of places that provide dermatology care seems to have increased significantly as well.
But did you know that only 2% of clinics and hospitals in Korea are run by board-certified dermatologists?
Before receiving skin treatment or procedures, many people want to know how to check whether the clinic is run by a skin specialist, or how to evaluate a dermatology clinic before visiting.
Some of you may not be sure how to do that, so we would like to share information on how to distinguish a board-certified dermatologist.
A board-certified dermatologist?
Before explaining how to distinguish them, the difference between a board-certified dermatologist and a general practitioner is that, after obtaining a medical license, they go through a separate training process of 1 year of internship and 4 years of residency.
During that process, they study theory in the relevant field and gain experience with a variety of treatment cases by seeing actual patients, and after acquiring knowledge and experience regarding effectiveness and side effects, they obtain board certification as a dermatologist.
Why you should look for a specialist
Therefore, for safety and beauty, we recommend a board-certified dermatologist who has experience with various treatment cases and professional knowledge about effectiveness and side effects.
How to find a board-certified dermatologist
-
Visit the website of the Korean Dermatological Association (https://www.akd.or.kr/search/search.php).
-
Select "Find a Specialist" at the top.

- Then this screen will appear. Let’s search for our clinic name.

- After searching, if the red logo is displayed, you can easily identify it as a clinic where a board-certified dermatologist works.

There is also a way to distinguish specialists from non-specialists without searching.

That’s all for today’s post.
