Why You Shouldn’t Look Only at the Implant Placement Site
Hello.
I’m dentist Kim Geun-il.

When I’m consulting with patients,
many people say,
“Since it’s just this one spot, it should be over quickly, right?”
It may sound obvious,
but this is not a treatment that ends with a problem of just “that one spot.”

The teeth in the mouth are structured to influence one another,
and an implant placed to replace a missing tooth also needs to consider
nearby teeth, the bite (occlusion), and gum condition together
in order to last long and stay trouble-free.^^
If the neighboring teeth are tilted,
or the chewing force is concentrated on one side,
the implant may become loose sooner than expected
or the prosthesis may fracture.

So today, I’ll organize the points you should know about
why you shouldn’t look only at “the place where it will be placed,”
and what other factors should be considered together.
Please read carefully to the end!
- The condition of the surrounding teeth must also be checked.

Implants are not a treatment where everything is solved
just because one is placed in the space where a tooth is missing.
Sinwol-dong Dentistry
At first glance, it may seem like a problem limited to one spot,
but the teeth on both sides of that space,
the opposing tooth, and chewing habits all interact together.

For example, if the teeth on both sides are tilted,
space 확보 becomes difficult and the shape of the prosthesis may look unnatural.
Also, if the opposing tooth above or below is in an abnormal position,
the chewing force can become concentrated,
causing the prosthesis to fracture or loosen.
Another important point is the gum condition of the surrounding teeth.

Placing only an implant newly in a state where there is periodontitis nearby
or the bone has become weak is similar to putting up a pillar
on unstable ground.
So for proper treatment,
it is not enough to look only at the empty space;
looking at the entire environment around that space together
is a basic condition for maintaining normal function
and for long-term use.^^
- It lasts longer when the overall balance is right.

The reason for placing an implant is not simply to “fill an empty space,”
but to restore proper chewing.

Because an implant does not have tissue like the periodontal ligament of a natural tooth
that disperses force,
if the force is concentrated, overload occurs.
As a result, the prosthesis may break earlier than expected,
or the surrounding jawbone may be damaged.

Also, if an implant is placed only on one side
while the opposite molar is missing,
you may keep chewing only on that side,
which concentrates the burden and can shorten its lifespan.
If the bite (the way the upper and lower teeth fit together)
does not match well, the teeth may feel loose
or strain the temporomandibular joint,
so
rather than thinking simply about “placing” it,
you need the perspective of “making it function within the balance of the whole mouth.”
Sinwol-dong Dentistry

That is why we do not look only at the specific area,
but also examine the overall dental arch and bite condition together
so that it can be used more comfortably and for longer,
and we provide diagnosis accordingly.^^
- Real success comes from checking the parts I didn’t know about.
Sinwol-dong Dentistry
At first glance, an implant may feel like a treatment that simply
fills in a missing tooth.
So it is natural to think,
“Isn’t it enough if it’s placed well in that spot?”

But in reality, it is not limited to replacing one tooth;
it is a treatment that restores the balance and harmony of the whole mouth,
so it is very important to consider even the parts that are not visible.
From the patient’s perspective, tilted teeth they did not know about,
weakened bone due to periodontitis,
the position of the opposing tooth that fits against it,
or habitual teeth grinding can have a major effect on lifespan
and success.
So a good implant does not start only with good materials;
it starts with understanding the oral condition as a whole
and approaching it that way.

At Sinwol-dong Dentistry,
we check these “invisible parts” together as well,
and we strive for results that can be used for a long time
and that you will be satisfied with!
Today, under the topic of
“Why You Shouldn’t Look Only at the Implant Placement Site in Sinwol-dong Dentistry,”
we looked together at the related information.

Looking not only at the placement site,
but also at the surrounding condition,
the balance of chewing force,
and even the small problems that are not visible,
is part of the process that creates successful results.
If you are considering an implant,
think first not about “how” to place it,
but about “how to use it for a long time.”
That starting point begins with looking at the whole picture together.

In the first procedure, precise treatment and
consistent management are important, and if left untreated,
inconvenience and worry can grow,
so replacement treatment must be decided carefully.
