about why you should not simply

chase the lowest price,

Implants are not mass-produced goods.

Many people think of implants

as “the same product no matter where you buy them,”

like smartphones or home appliances.

They assume that whether the implant is placed

at Dental Clinic A or Dental Clinic B,

using materials from the same brand

will produce the same result.

However, from a dentist’s perspective,

I would like to emphasize that implants

are not mass-produced goods

stamped out in a factory.

Implant treatment is a precise “surgical procedure”

that may last five years,

10 years or more, or even a lifetime,

depending on who places it.

The thickness and density of the jawbone,

the location of the nerve,

and even chewing habits and

the way the teeth meet—also known as the bite—

are different for every person.

Even a tiny difference in angle or depth of 0.1 mm

can cause discomfort when chewing,

or, in severe cases, lead to complications

such as the implant becoming loose and falling out.

Ultimately, no matter how good the genuine materials are,

implementing them perfectly in a patient’s mouth

depends entirely on the “skilled hands of the medical professionals.”

Does a dental clinic that emphasizes low prices

really save you money?

When I meet patients who were drawn in

by the dramatic low-price marketing available on the market,

chose a dental clinic,

and later—whether after a short time or several years—

come to our clinic again,

I feel very heavy-hearted as a doctor.

• “It hasn’t even been a year since it was placed, but it’s loose.”

• “It feels sharp and hurts every time I chew, so I can’t eat.”

• “The dental clinic suddenly disappeared.”

• “The dentist in charge kept changing, so I couldn’t receive proper care.”

If an existing implant has to be removed

and another surgery is required because of implant complications,

the process is much more difficult than the first time.

Additional bone grafting costs may be required

to rebuild jawbone that has been resorbed,

the moments I found most heartbreaking were

when patients urgently needed treatment

but turned away

As I have said many times

both on this blog and in the treatment room,

if you spend a long time without teeth,

all of the jawbone eventually resorbs,

making treatment several times more difficult later on.

So, after much consideration, I made a decision:

I lowered the cost of implants

not because I use low-cost materials
