[Revision Eyelid Surgery] Asymmetry, Loosening, Dissatisfaction: What Are the Side Effects of Double Eyelid Surgery and How Can They Be Prevented?

Eye plastic surgery, especially double eyelid surgery,

attracts a lot of attention,

but concerns about side effects are also great.

Understanding the side effects that can commonly occur

can help reduce anxiety

and prepare for surgery.

First of all, all incision surgeries carry

the possibility of inflammation.

Double eyelid surgery is no exception,

but the face is an area with good blood circulation, so

even if inflammation occurs, it is usually limited locally

and can be controlled with antibiotic treatment.

The top 3 most common side effects of double eyelid surgery are

line asymmetry (unevenness), loosening of the line,

and subjective dissatisfaction.

First,

because both eyes naturally differ slightly in size and shape,

they may look symmetrical immediately after surgery,

but differences can appear during the recovery process.

In such cases, it is usually resolved by adjusting one eyelid line

to match the other.

Second,

loosening of the line occurs depending on the eye structure.

If the skin is thick or the eyes are deeply set,

the line may weaken over time,

so it is important to discuss this possibility thoroughly before surgery.

In most cases, only one side loosens,

and correction is also possible.

Third,

subjective dissatisfaction occurs when there is no problem with the eyes,

but the result differs from expectations.

This often happens when the size or height of the line

does not match what was desired.

In such cases, you should consult a specialist

about whether additional correction is possible.

The prevention method is

to repeatedly open and close the eyes during surgery

to check symmetry, and if necessary,

to inspect the line while seated as well.

To avoid missing even small asymmetries,

they should be checked after swelling has been reduced,

and a specialist’s careful adjustments are needed.

For men,

the goal is a “naturally refreshed-looking eye shape,”

so rather than an overly noticeable line,

a stable design that suits the individual’s face is more appropriate.

Most side effects of double eyelid surgery

can be prevented and corrected.

The important thing is to know your eye condition accurately.

Men often have thicker skin or different eye structures,

so rather than expecting the same line as women,

it is better to aim for a natural and comfortable result.

Asking enough questions and fully understanding the procedure during the consultation

is the most reliable way to increase satisfaction.
