[Eyelid Surgery] Ptosis Hidden by Sagging Skin: An Accurate Diagnosis Is Important

Sagging eyelids and ptosis,

Finding satisfaction through a combined approach

Many people visit a plastic surgery clinic because their eyelids have sagged,

making them look tired or drowsy.

At this point, it is easy to assume that it is ptosis,

but in many cases, the muscle that opens the eyes is actually functioning normally,

and the loose eyelid skin simply covers the pupil,

making it look like ptosis.

In such cases, it is important to accurately distinguish between skin sagging and true ptosis,

and then establish a surgical plan that matches the diagnosis.

One patient who visited the clinic also

appeared to have severe ptosis at first glance,

but detailed examination revealed that sagging eyelid skin was the main cause. In cases like this, when the causes are combined,

it is difficult to achieve satisfying results with a simple method alone.

For this patient, the procedure was performed in combination with

'a skin excision procedure' to remove the loose skin,

and 'eye opening correction' to adjust the muscle that opens the eyes by about 4 mm

so that the pupils would be more clearly visible.

Right after surgery, the eye shape improved as intended,

but because this was surgery, swelling naturally appeared.

In this patient’s case, on the 4th day after surgery,

the left eye temporarily appeared to open less

due to swelling. This is a common phenomenon that can occur in the early stage after surgery,

and most cases resolve as the tissues stabilize.

And as expected, as time passed,

the swelling gradually went down and the tissues stabilized,

the eye shape settled naturally.

Through photos taken 6 months after surgery,

we could confirm that the symmetry of both eyes was achieved in a very harmonious way.

In this way, eyelid surgery is not only about the appearance immediately after surgery,

but also goes through a process of gradual change and stabilization over about 6 months to 1 year,

after the swelling has fully subsided and the tissues have recovered.

Therefore, it is important to understand and wait through the recovery period,

so that the final result becomes a natural

and beautiful eye shape.

When an accurate diagnosis of each person’s eye condition,

customized surgical planning, and a sufficient understanding of the recovery process are all combined,

satisfying results can be achieved.
