[Middle-Age Eye Surgery] How to Avoid Overcorrection and Achieve a Natural, Youthful Look

1. Side Effects That May Occur After Eye Surgery

All surgeries carry a risk of infection,

but the face has abundant blood circulation, so severe inflammation is rare, and most cases can be managed.

Here are three common side effects after double eyelid surgery.

Asymmetry

Because human eyes are naturally asymmetrical, there may be slight differences after surgery.

If the other side is adjusted to match the satisfactory line, most cases improve.

Line loosening

Depending on eyelid thickness or eye shape, fixation may be weak and the line may loosen.

Prediction before surgery and firm fixation are important, and if it loosens, a simple revision surgery is possible.

Subjective dissatisfaction

This refers to cases where the surgical result is within the normal range, but differs from the patient’s expectations.

It is usually related to the line size, so after 충분한 상담, whether to correct it is decided.

Prevention and improvement

The most important thing is for the medical team during surgery to repeatedly ask the patient to open and close the eyes, and precisely check and adjust symmetry and strength.

Good results can be achieved only when this process is done while swelling is minimal.

2. Is It Necessary to Do Canthoplasty When Having Double Eyelid Surgery?

Many people wonder whether canthoplasty is something that must be done in order to make the eyes look bigger.

I believe that increasing the vertical length of the eyes is more important.

A single eyelid or drooping eyelids in Koreans can often become noticeably larger with double eyelid surgery alone.

If eye-opening correction surgery is performed together to improve the force of opening the eyes, the vertical length of the eyes becomes even more refreshed.

Canthoplasty plays a supporting role rather than fundamentally enlarging the eyes.

Because there is also a possibility of scarring, it is important to consider it carefully only when truly necessary. It is not a surgery that everyone absolutely needs.

3. Youthful Eye Surgery for Middle-Aged Men

Middle-aged men often visit the clinic because they worry that they look tired or that they seem angry.

This is because drooping eyelids or ptosis makes them overuse the forehead, causing wrinkles and changing the overall impression.

The causes are drooping eyelids and ptosis, and upper eyelid surgery (removal of sagging skin) or eye-opening correction surgery is performed together.

Through this, it is possible to improve a tired, heavy-looking impression and increase overall likability.

Many people come after a long period of 고민, but before the age of 60, considering surgery is generally better for improvement results.

4. Beware of 'Overcorrection' Before Eye-Opening Correction Surgery

Overcorrection

This is when too much of the eyeball is exposed, showing too much white around the eyes, or the eyes take on a wide-open, startled appearance.

Improvement

Overcorrected eye-opening correction usually requires a revision surgery for readjustment, but because of the previous surgery, the level of difficulty is high, so it is not possible in every case, and consultation with a specialist is essential.

Prevention

The most important thing is to accurately diagnose whether it is 'true ptosis' or 'pseudo ptosis.'

If eye-opening correction is performed aggressively when it is not ptosis, the chance of overcorrection is high.

Also, the degree of eye opening can change due to swelling, so rather than combining multiple surgeries indiscriminately, it is better to follow the specialist’s judgment.

Overcorrection is prevented by checking again at the time of stitch removal and making adjustments through that process.
