Hello, this is Ahn Byung-joon Plastic Surgery.
One of the things we often hear in the consultation room is, “People keep saying I look tired around the eyes.”
When people look in the mirror, they often say there doesn’t seem to be anything seriously wrong, but in photos they look sleepy and their expression seems dull.
In cases like this, many people come in thinking the problem is only the eyelid line.
However, when we take a closer look at the eyes, it is not uncommon to find ptosis, where the strength to open the eyes is insufficient.
The case shown today also started with concerns like these.
Why the eyes looked so tired
At the first consultation, the first thing that stood out was ptosis.
The forehead and eyebrows were constantly being strained in an effort to open the eyes more clearly,
and as a result, the overall impression easily looked tired.
Rather than simply lacking a double eyelid line, this was a case where the eye-opening muscle lacked strength, so the eyes could not open fully.
In this kind of condition, simply creating a double eyelid line has limitations when it comes to improving the overall impression.
In particular, because the person was trying to force the eyes open wider, forehead wrinkles began to appear, and they were also reporting discomfort in daily life.

Correct the droopy eyes and make the double eyelids more natural
In this case, there were two important points I focused on.
Restoring the strength to open the eyes, and adjusting the double eyelids so they suited the face without looking excessive.
So, through eyelid correction, I supplemented the strength of the droopy eyes while designing the double eyelid line to look natural.
I always say that eyes that open comfortably come before eyes that simply look bigger.
The change that can already be felt 4 days after surgery, at the time of suture removal
The time of suture removal is still a period when swelling remains.
Even so, if you look at this photo, you can see that the expression when opening the eyes has become much softer.
The eyes were opening naturally without needing to tense the forehead, and the left-right balance was also becoming more stable.
From this point on, the patient said, “It’s much more comfortable to open my eyes.”
6 months after surgery, eyes should ultimately look natural

This is what the patient looked like after 6 months.
The swelling has gone down, and the double eyelids create a clear impression without standing out too much.
Most importantly, the patient said the eyes felt even more comfortable.
I believe eyelid correction is not just a surgery that changes one’s appearance, but a process that also restores comfort in the eyes.

Eyes should look natural to last.
Compared with eyes that are opened wide, eyes that can be opened comfortably without effort tend to lead to greater satisfaction over time.
Eyelid correction is a surgery to change one’s impression,
but I also think of it as a process that allows the eyes to function comfortably.
When the strength to open the eyes is restored, the expression changes,
and over time, that change settles in more naturally.
