[Seongsu Restaurant] An Izakaya Famous for Tonkatsu on Seongsu Cafe Street

in addition to unique cafes,

there are also a variety of restaurants.

I met a friend after a long time and visited 'Tora Restaurant,' which is famous for tonkatsu.

This is Tora Restaurant, located in a residential area inside the cafe street.

They had a menu board set up in front of the shop.

We went down the stairs.

It’s not completely underground,

but more like a semi-basement.

Cozy interior

As soon as we sat down,

most of the empty tables were filled,

so I couldn’t take many interior photos.

There was even a wait!

Here is the menu.

There are recommended items,

along with dishes, meals, side dishes,

and alcoholic drinks.

We ordered assorted sashimi and drinks.

As a basic side dish, they served simmered konjac

and marinated sea squirt and seaweed

in soy sauce.

The fragrant sea squirt

was pleasantly tangy and delicious.

After waiting about 15 minutes,

we received the assorted sashimi. (35,000 won)

We were satisfied with the price, selection, and taste!

However, both the kitchen

and the dining floor seemed busy,

so whenever we ordered something, it took a bit of time.

I also didn’t get a very friendly impression.

Maybe they were just busy?

Soju and tonic water

We added lemon and drank it.

The magic of tonic water,

which makes even bitter alcohol taste sweet.

The sashimi was really fresh

and delicious.

Lightly seared scallops and fatty tuna

The boiled abalone and flatfish belly were thick too,

and the salmon was thick and delicious as well.

In addition, there were white fish, squid, shellfish, and more,

making this a great-value platter of assorted sashimi.

People usually order the black pork tonkatsu,

omelet rice, and similar dishes,

but the drinks snacks were excellent too.

The drinks went down smoothly

Since just sashimi felt a little incomplete, we ordered

nankotsu karaage.

Nankotsu means cartilage,

and this is a dish of fried chicken cartilage.

The batter wasn’t thick,

and it was crispy and well-seasoned,

so it was perfect as a drink snack.

Next time, I should come

for the tonkatsu.

The food was so good that

I’d like to try all the other menu items too.

However, the tables are very close together,

and if you go during peak hours, there is even a wait,

so it takes a little time for the food to come out,

and the staff were not especially friendly.

That part was a little disappointing.

For reference, Tora Restaurant apparently has a first and second branch,

so it might be a good idea to choose the location without a wait.
