Ptosis refers to a condition in which the eyelid is not in its normal position and droops downward to cover the pupil, such as when the eyes are naturally droopy from birth, when aging later in life makes it difficult to open the eyes wide enough, or when there is a nerve abnormality or myasthenia gravis.
It is often described as sleepy eyes. If this condition continues for a long time, people may begin using the forehead muscles to open their eyes, which can lead to forehead wrinkles, headaches, and eye fatigue.
In such cases, ptosis correction, which pulls up the muscles that open the eyes, can improve sleepy, heavy-looking eyes into a clearer and more refreshed look.

But what if you only have double eyelid surgery without ptosis correction?
The amount of the black part of the eye that is exposed can also determine whether the eyes look beautiful.
Generally, when the eyes are open and about 80–90% of the black part of the eye is visible, the eyes look clear and attractive. However, if you only have double eyelid surgery without correcting ptosis, or if ptosis is corrected too much so that too much of the black part of the eye is exposed, the result may instead look unnatural.
In some cases, the eyes may even appear smaller or sleepier, and the double eyelids may loosen easily. Creating a double eyelid alone does not make the eyes larger or correct ptosis, so it is best to decide on surgery after 충분히 consulting with a specialist who can accurately diagnose your eye condition.

Ptosis correction is divided into incisional and non-incisional methods depending on the amount of fat in the eyelids, the degree of muscle strength, the thickness and sagging of the skin, and whether it is a revision surgery.
Incisional eyelid correction
It effectively improves severe ptosis and age-related ptosis, and because the before-and-after difference is clear, satisfying results can be expected.
-
When the strength to open the eyes is very weak
-
When the degree of eyelid drooping is severe
-
When there is a lot of fat in the eyelids
-
When the skin of the upper eyelid is thick
Non-incisional eyelid correction
Because there is no incision, scars are less noticeable and swelling is minimal, so daily life is hardly affected.
-
When there is a certain amount of strength to open the eyes
-
When the degree of eyelid drooping is not severe
-
When there is little fat in the eyelids
-
When the skin of the upper eyelid is moderately thick

Cases where ptosis correction is needed
-
When your vision feels obstructed and uncomfortable when your eyes are open
-
When the eyelids cover more than 10% of the pupil, giving a lethargic impression
-
When you use your forehead or eyebrows to force your eyes open
-
When the strength to open the eyes differs between both sides, so one eye opens later or there is a difference in size
-
When the eyes look smaller and heavier after double eyelid surgery
