How is extraction done at a clinic?

The biggest risk when squeezing acne yourself at home is applying too much force without proper sterilization, which can spread inflammation.

Then the inflammation can spread into the dermis, increasing the likelihood of red marks or indented scars.

Clinic extraction care is different from self-care.

First, a tiny hole is made on the surface of the acne using a sterilized lancet, which is a fine needle.

This creates an outlet through which inflammatory material can be released.

Then, a sterilized extractor is used to apply appropriate pressure around the pores.

What matters here is the “direction” and “pressure control.”

You should not press straight down from above. Instead, pressure should be applied by gently lifting around the acne in the direction of the pore.

That way, the acne comes out of the skin rather than bursting inward.

After extraction, the procedure is finished with immediate sterilization and calming care.

Why does acne recur even after extraction?

It is quite common for acne to seem fine for a while after extraction, only to come back later.

The reason is simple: extraction removes the contents of existing acne, but it does not remove the cause of acne formation.

The main cause of acne is excessive sebum production.

Inside our skin, there are sebaceous glands, which produce sebum.

Sebum produced by these glands normally helps protect the skin from external irritation.

If acne keeps recurring even after extraction, it can be managed by controlling the sebaceous glands.

• Neobeam

Neobeam is a method that uses a laser with a wavelength of 1450 nm.

When the laser energy is absorbed by the sebaceous glands, heat is generated, reducing or destroying their size.

As a result, sebum production decreases and the environment that acne-causing bacteria thrive in is suppressed.

One advantage is that it has a cooling system that briefly cools the skin surface during treatment, so pain is relatively low.

• Agnes

Agnes is a procedure in which a very thin insulated needle, called a micro-insulated needle, is inserted into the skin to deliver radiofrequency energy directly deep into the sebaceous glands.

The surface of the needle is insulated, and radiofrequency is emitted only from the tip, so only the sebaceous glands are destroyed without damaging the skin surface or other tissues.

Agnes is effective for people whose acne keeps appearing in specific areas.

That’s because it can target and remove only the problematic sebaceous glands in areas such as a specific part of the chin or cheeks, or part of the forehead.

One additional thing I’d like to mention is that reducing some sebaceous glands does not make the skin dry.

Our skin has more than tens of thousands of sebaceous glands, so controlling only some overactive glands that are causing problems is not an issue for maintaining skin balance.

In fact, reducing excess oil can make the skin feel smoother and cleaner.
