Jamsil Pico Toning Ruby Laser
Can they be done together?
"Can I get multiple laser treatments together?"
This is one of the questions we get asked a lot during laser toning consultations.
If you look online or on YouTube, you’ll see that Ruby laser is said to work well for blemishes,
Pico toning is said to be good for overall skin elasticity and tone,
and other lasers are often described as being good for other specific concerns.
Because of that, it can seem like you need to get several lasers,
but then it is hard to tell whether that would put too much strain on the skin
or whether it would actually improve the results.
To give you the conclusion first:
these two lasers have different wavelengths
and different ways of working in the skin,
so they can be used together.
However, neither blindly doing them together
nor blindly separating them is the right answer.
So you may be wondering how they should be done,
and today I’ll explain pico toning and Ruby laser in detail.

- What are the differences between Pico Toning and Ruby Laser?
Let’s start by talking about how pico toning and Ruby laser are different.

Pico toning refers to a treatment that uses a picosecond laser
to tone the skin.
A picosecond is an extremely short pulse measured in trillionths of a second.
The terms picosecond and pulse may sound difficult,
but simply put, it means the laser stays on the skin for a very short time.
When energy is delivered in such a short time,
shock waves occur before the heat spreads.
Through this photoacoustic effect, pigment particles are physically broken into smaller pieces,
and because the heat does not spread,
damage to the surrounding tissue is minimized.
Pico toning uses different wavelength ranges depending on the device, such as 755 nm and 1064 nm,
so the device should be chosen according to the depth of the pigment.

On the other hand, Ruby laser refers to a laser that uses a 694 nm wavelength.
Because this wavelength is selectively absorbed by melanin pigment,
it is effective for sharply defined pigmentation such as blemishes, age spots, and solar lentigines.
Since melanin absorption is high and the treatment effect appears well,
if the energy is too strong, PIH,
post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, can occur.
That is why careful energy control is important depending on the pigmented area.
- What are the effects when Pico Toning and Ruby Laser
are done together?
In fact, doing them together does not automatically mean better results.
They are effective when used on skin that needs both pico toning and Ruby laser.
However, since they work differently within the skin,
they can be effective when pigmentation is mixed.
Let’s talk about the effect while looking at an actual clinical paper.

This paper examined the progress after applying a picosecond 1064 nm laser and Ruby laser
to a person who had developed a combination of blemishes,
pigment imbalance, and reduced skin elasticity due to chronic sun exposure.
The picosecond laser was used to manage overall skin tone,
and the Ruby laser was used to focus on blemishes.
The photos below compare the skin before and after treatment.

Pigmented lesions had clearly faded,
and the skin tone had become more even.
According to the objective skin analysis results,
pores improved from 33 to 30,
elasticity from 54 to 38,
pigmentation from 35 to 33,
and UV pigmentation from 43 to 41.

Not only the skin tone,
but the overall skin texture also improved.
This effect was possible because pico toning and Ruby laser
worked differently within the skin.
Also, there were no serious side effects during the procedure,
and patient satisfaction was high.
This showed that pico toning and Ruby laser can be done together
without putting too much strain on the skin.
The key point this case shows is that pico toning and Ruby laser
shared their roles and complemented each other’s weaknesses.
Pico toning and Ruby laser are a combination that can be used together,
but simply doing both at the same time does not automatically produce good results.
A plan should first be made for how to combine them according to your skin’s pigment distribution,
degree of elasticity loss,
and skin tone.
Rather than thinking, "These treatments are effective, so I should get them too,"
please just keep in mind that they can be done together,
and make your treatment plan based on your skin condition.
