'I've heard so many good things about Ulthera,
so I'm thinking of getting it.
They say the results are really good...'
Because we live in an era overflowing with beauty information, more and more people are coming in specifically asking about Ulthera by name.
Since it is mentioned so often across YouTube, blogs, and online communities, it almost seems like 'lifting = Ulthera' has become a formula.
Ulthera is indeed an effective lifting method, but it does not suit every type of sagging skin or every type of aging.
No matter how good a method is, if it is performed in an unsuitable situation, it may not deliver the expected results and can even lead to side effects.
So today, while looking at the principles and effects of Ulthera, we will go into detail about when Ulthera is not suitable and what kind of care may be better in those cases.

The principle and effects of Ulthera
Ulthera is a non-surgical lifting method that uses HIFU, or High-Intensity Focused Ultrasound technology.
Without affecting the skin surface, it precisely focuses ultrasound energy on a specific depth within the skin to create a thermal coagulation point at around 60 to 70 degrees Celsius.
The point where this heat-induced stimulation occurs is the SMAS layer, that is, the superficial muscular aponeurotic system. It is the layer pulled during facelift surgery, and also the area that causes facial sagging.

Ulthera concentrates energy here to contract loosened tissue. Then, through the healing process of the thermal coagulation points, it induces new collagen regeneration to create a lifting effect.

One more point: Ulthera has recently been upgraded to Ultherapy Prime. It is a follow-up version released about 15 years after the original launch in 2009.
What stands out is that the depth of the skin layer visible on ultrasound imaging has expanded from a previous maximum of 4.5 mm to as much as 8 mm.
The screen resolution has also become clearer, making it possible to design treatments that better match each person's skin condition and to observe the inside of the skin more clearly during the procedure.

The basic principle is the same as Ulthera, but because it allows for more precise visualization during the procedure, you can think of it as an upgraded version in terms of precision and safety.

I don’t have much facial volume
As we age, a decrease in the fat, collagen, and moisture beneath the skin leads to reduced volume, which is an important part of aging.
Examples include loss of cheek volume, hollowness under the eyes, deeper nasolabial folds, and a flatter forehead.

If this is your concern, Ulthera alone may make it difficult to achieve the results you want.
Even if lifting improves sagging, if there is no volume to fill in, the skin may look wrinkled or gaunt.
If a high-energy procedure is performed when there is very little volume to begin with, the already limited volume may decrease even further.
For this reason, for people in this situation, considering volume restoration first or alongside lifting may be more helpful for regaining elasticity.

For example, combining it with a procedure such as Radiesse, which is injected into the skin to activate fibroblasts and promote collagen and elastin production while also providing some immediate volume, can be effective.
In short, if hollowness is more noticeable than sagging, considering volume restoration together with Ulthera rather than Ulthera alone may help.
That is why, during consultation, it is important to first determine whether the current concern is simply reduced elasticity, volume loss, or a combination of both.

My skin is thin and sensitive
Ulthera is a method that delivers strong energy deep into the skin. That is part of its advantage, but for people with very thin or sensitive skin, this intensity can feel burdensome.
If high energy is delivered when the skin is not thick enough, there is a possibility that the energy may affect areas beyond the intended layer.

Of course, with the upgrade to Ultherapy Prime, ultrasound image resolution has improved, making it possible to check skin layers in greater detail and adjust the energy intensity and depth.
It is true that the range of use has expanded even for thin skin.
Still, if you have very thin skin and a highly reactive complexion, it may be worth considering options other than Ulthera that are less stimulating.

Thermage FLX / Oligio
In such cases, you may want to consider RF-based lifting procedures.
A characteristic of RF-based procedures is that they apply heat evenly over a relatively broad skin layer to tighten the tissue.
Because the energy is dispersed across a wide area rather than concentrated at one point, even people with thin or sensitive skin can undergo the treatment with less burden.
Representative examples include Thermage, Oligio, and Volnewmer.

I have an important event this month
When you have an important event or anniversary coming up soon, it is natural to think about skin care.
However, Ulthera is not a method that produces results quickly.
As explained earlier, Ulthera works by contracting tissue through thermal coagulation points and then promoting collagen regeneration afterward.

Right after treatment, temporary swelling, redness, or mild pain may occur, and time is needed before the results become visible.

Typically, it takes at least a month before noticeable changes appear. As collagen regeneration progresses, the effects become more pronounced afterward.
So if you get Ulthera shortly before an important day, it means you may not be able to fully see the effects by then.
If time is tight, laser-based lifting such as Titanium Lifting may be helpful for now.
Compared with other lifting procedures, it offers immediate tightening and is effective for fine lines and pores, making it strong for improving skin texture and suitable when you have an important event coming up.
It is better to plan Ulthera for after the event, at a time when there is enough room for the effects to develop.

Today, for those looking for dermatology at Jamsil Station for Ulthera, we explained when Ulthera may not be a good fit and how to respond in those cases.
Ulthera is an effective method, but it is not always suitable for everyone. That is the core message I wanted to share in today’s post.
It is important to first consider whether the main cause of aging is sagging or volume loss, what the skin thickness and sensitivity are like, and whether now is the right time.
Through consultation and diagnosis, please check your skin condition and receive treatment from a place that can clearly tell you whether Ulthera is truly right for you and, if so, when the best timing would be.
