Today, we would like to share the case of someone who had been concerned for a long time about the pigmentation left behind after their acne had subsided, rather than the acne itself.

The patient was a 20-year-old man who had never received dermatological treatment before.

He visited us because he was concerned about acne scars on his forehead and cheeks.

What did his skin look like initially?

We first evaluated his skin condition before treatment using MarkVue.

Although active acne had hardly appeared recently, pigmentation in the dermal layer and redness often remained where the inflammation had passed.

When a severe acne lesion appears and then subsides, brown pigmentation or red marks may remain in that area like traces left behind.

These marks gradually become lighter over time, but the process tends to be slow. For this reason, many people seek treatment.

This patient was in a similar situation. Rather than treating newly appearing acne, he needed treatment to lighten the pigmentation and marks that were already present.

How was it treated?

Pigmentation does not disappear after a single treatment.

Because pigmentation located deep in the skin gradually becomes lighter through multiple treatments, we first explained that consistent treatment sessions would be necessary.

Derma V

We used Pico Toning, a laser that breaks down pigmentation, and Derma V, a laser that helps reduce redness, as the basic combination, with treatments performed at two-week intervals.

The laser equipment used at each session varied depending on the skin’s condition that day.

PicoSure and PicoHi

Among the Pico Toning treatments, PicoSure and PicoHi were used alternately depending on the location of the pigmentation. In between, the NeoBeam laser, which helps regulate sebum, was also used.

Rather than using only one type of laser, we monitored the response to the previous treatment and proceeded with the laser treatment needed at each stage.

How did it change after treatment?

This patient continued treatment for approximately 14 months, receiving 20 sessions in total.

The photo above compares the start of the first session with the end of the 20th session.

At the beginning, brown pigmentation was widely visible across the forehead and cheeks.

As the number of sessions increased, the pigmentation gradually became lighter, and the overall skin tone appeared more even.

After treatment for acne pigmentation scars

The patient was also highly satisfied, saying that the pigmentation that had remained for a long time had become lighter.

However, to be honest, this change was achieved gradually through consistent treatment over 14 months.

Pigmentation does not disappear all at once; it gradually becomes lighter in stages through multiple treatment sessions.

Therefore, rather than expecting the issue to be resolved in one treatment, it is necessary to approach the process with a little patience.
