When people hear about injecting an indented area,

it is easy to imagine the space being immediately

filled, like with a filler.

However, the way Rejuran S works on scars

is slightly different from simply creating height

in proportion to the injected volume.

This is because an indented scar is a sign that

the structure beneath the skin, which supported the skin

after experiencing acne inflammation, has become weakened.

So, what effect can the PN component of Rejuran S

have on this structure?

Today, we will look at the process by which indented scars form,

the role PN plays inside the skin,

the changes confirmed in actual research,

and the criteria for deciding on treatment.

1. How Does Rejuran S

Fill Indented Acne Scars?

The dermis contains tissues, including collagen,

that firmly support the skin’s surface.

When acne inflammation continues deep within the skin,

these tissues can become damaged

and may not recover sufficiently

while the inflammation subsides.

During this process, depressions form

as the skin’s surface sinks downward.

PN, the main component of Rejuran S,

is a substance made of small units

that form DNA and are connected in long chains.

PN injected into the skin does not remain

as a single mass like a filler

and raise the indented area

by the amount of its own volume.

Instead, it is involved in creating an environment

where cells that restore the skin can move

and produce collagen.

Fibroblasts play an important role in this process.

Fibroblasts are cells that move to damaged areas,

produce collagen to support the skin,

and organize it.

In other words, the expression that Rejuran S “fills” indented scars

does not mean that the injected substance itself

creates height as it remains in place.

Rather, it helps the weakened dermis recover

and become more organized,

making the edges and shadows of shallow depressions

appear less pronounced.

2. Jamsil Rejuran S:

How Much Can It Fill Indented Scars?

Let’s look at how much indented scars can be filled

through a clinical study that used a PN-based injection

for atrophic acne scars.

The study included 20 Caucasian women

who had not experienced active acne

during the previous five years.

Ten participants received a PN-based substance,

while the other 10 received saline.

The same treatment was performed once more

three weeks after the first procedure,

after which changes were compared

at one month and three months

after the second procedure.

In the group that received the PN-based substance,

two indicators decreased at one month

and were measured at even lower levels

after three months.

did not show statistically clear changes

during the same period.

A decrease in the measurements means

that the depressions and roughness

on the skin’s surface, as measured by the device,

were reduced, making the skin appear more even than before.

However, this study does not mean

that the base of every indented scar

was raised by a certain number of millimeters.

The study examined the contours and texture

of the skin’s surface,

but did not directly measure

the depth of the scars

or how firmly they were attached

to the underlying tissue.

Therefore, although these results suggest

that PN-based injections may be one way

to address the surface of atrophic scars,

they are difficult to use as criteria

for determining the dosage and number of Rejuran S treatments

or the effects for each individual.

3. Can Indented Acne Scars

Be Treated with Rejuran S Alone?

In fact, indented acne scars not only take a long time

to improve,

but treatment often involves combining several procedures

rather than relying on just one.

The same applies to Rejuran S.

Rejuran S alone may be sufficient in some cases,

while other cases may require combination treatment.

For shallow, gradual depressions,

Rejuran S, which supports dermal recovery and skin texture,

may be considered.

However, when the depression is narrow and deep,

as if made by a needle,

we more often recommend combining Rejuran S

with needle RF or Fraxel.

If the depression is caused by tension beneath the skin,

it can be more effective to first release

the tethered skin with subcision

and then inject Rejuran S.

As such, you can see results

when the appropriate procedure is combined

according to the type of indented scar.
