Hello. We are Mary Plastic Surgery Clinic, pursuing natural and beautiful changes.
What shape does an ideal nose refer to?
Many people may imagine a nose tip that is lifted and a slender bridge.
At this time, the nostrils should not be excessively exposed.
When the nose appears short due to congenital or acquired reasons, the nostrils are often overly exposed, and people may even be teased for having a pig nose.
Because a short nose, or a turned-up nose, can lower aesthetic appeal, many people who see it as a complex choose to undergo plastic surgery.
Since the nose is located in the center of the face, the impression inevitably changes depending on its length.
So if your nose looks especially short and you feel dissatisfied with its shape, you can look into septal extension surgery.
Is my nose considered short?

Whether the nose is short, or whether only the tip is lifted and a turned-up nose type appears, it is advisable to visit the clinic and receive a diagnosis through consultation and a detailed analysis with the medical team.
However, before visiting the clinic, if you become dissatisfied with your nose shape, you can also estimate whether it is a short nose by considering the overall proportions.
In general, when the human face is divided horizontally into three parts, it can be separated into the upper face, middle face, and lower face.
The ideal proportion is when these three areas are in a 1:1:1 ratio.
Recently, as preference for a youthful appearance has increased, the proportion of the upper face may increase slightly and the proportion of the lower face may decrease slightly, but in the end, the nose in the middle face tends to become a factor that disrupts the impression if it exceeds or falls short of one-third of the entire face.
If the nose appears short, not only is the nostril exposure more noticeable, but the middle third of the face also gives the overall impression of being short, which can make the lower face look more developed or the bridge of the nose look lower.
How is short nose surgery performed?

As mentioned earlier, a short nose can occur for congenital or acquired reasons.
It can happen because the skeletal structure of the nose is short, but it is also one of the representative complications that can appear due to contracture after nose surgery.
Therefore, short nose surgery is important because the method must be applied differently depending on the cause, while safely lengthening the nose within a range that does not damage the soft tissue or skin, and carefully fixing the tip so that it does not turn upward.
What is Mary’s short nose surgery?

So how is short nose surgery performed at our clinic?
At our clinic, we broadly help by comprehensively considering cartilage surgery, septal extension surgery, and augmentation rhinoplasty.
Among these, the most commonly used method is septal extension surgery.
If the columella (the pillar of the nose) is positioned higher than the alae, additional autologous cartilage, including septal cartilage, can be grafted between the septal cartilage and the alar cartilage at the nasal tip to lower the tip and make the nose appear longer.
If you also want to increase the overall height of the nose after septal extension surgery, augmentation rhinoplasty can be performed additionally, placing an implant on the bridge of the nose and autologous tissue at the tip to improve the nasal line.

Candidates for septal extension surgery
✅ When you want a nose length and line that match your facial proportions
✅ When the nose is very short and turned upward
✅ When the nose is short, making the face look flat
✅ When the nose length is normal, but the lifted nose is a concern
✅ When nostril exposure is severe from the front
