Hello, this is Merry Plastic Surgery Clinic, nice to meet you.
Is simple liposuction enough for double chin removal?
These days, whenever you take a selfie, do you feel something heavy under your chin?
You may have tried dieting and even massage/manual therapy, but a double chin is often not as easy to solve as expected. It can really be frustrating.
A double chin is often not just a simple fat issue. Removing the fat alone is not the end of it; an approach that also considers the jawline structure and the neck muscles is needed.

A double chin
is not simply a fat problem
Many people think a double chin is something that appears because they gained weight, but in reality, several complex factors can be involved. I’ll divide them into three main types, so think about which one applies to you~
-
When the submental fat layer under the chin is thick
-
When the jawbone structure is short or set back (retruded chin)
-
When the platysma muscle is weak or separated, reducing elasticity

In these cases, it may be difficult to create a refined line with liposuction alone, and over time a double chin may form again.
Why liposuction + muscle tightening are needed together
In the double chin area, there is a broad muscle called the platysma that runs from the chin toward the collarbone.
When this muscle loosens due to aging or repeated movement, it can create sagging lines under the jawline and make it easier for fat to collect.
Therefore, instead of removing fat alone, combining it with platysma plication, which brings the separated platysma muscle together, can help achieve smoother and firmer results.
If liposuction is surface cleanup, muscle tightening can be understood as structural improvement.
Rather than simply removing shallow fat on the surface, muscle tightening also helps remove fat between the muscles.
The difference in the jawline comes from whether the root cause is addressed or not.
If this applies, be sure to check the muscle as well for double chin removal!
-
Even after liposuction, the area under the chin does not look firm and still appears saggy
-
The front selfie looks fine, but from the side (45 degrees) the jawline looks collapsed
-
The jawline looks short compared with your body frame
-
The double chin gets worse gradually with age

Are you satisfied with double chin liposuction?
What about recovery after surgery?
If muscle tightening is performed together, the recovery period may take a little longer than with general liposuction.
However, returning to daily life after the procedure is relatively quick. There may be differences depending on the medical institution, so it is important to create a personalized plan through consultation with the attending specialist before the procedure.
Double chin removal is not simply a procedure for “losing fat,” but a delicate process that must also consider the three-dimensional structure of the face and aging factors. Diagnosis and surgery are performed based on know-how accumulated through many surgical cases.

If areas that may be insufficient with simple liposuction are structurally complemented with muscle tightening, a more defined jawline and more satisfying results can be expected.
