Hello, this is Merry Plastic Surgery Clinic, where meeting is always a pleasure.
“Got the shot to lose weight, but got pregnant?!”
Have you heard about the unexpected changes that can happen after Wegovy and Ozempic injections?
“I couldn’t get pregnant, but after taking a weight-loss shot, I ended up having a baby.”
“Ever since my husband started Ozempic, he’s... really changed.”
Would you believe that one injection taken for weight loss could bring “unexpected life changes”?
These days, the online buzz around “Ozempic Baby” and “increased penile length” is making headlines one after another.
This suggests there may be physiological changes beyond simple side effects and weight loss.
In this article, I’ll explain the mechanism, real-life cases, and medical evidence in detail.

Weight-loss injections,
do they just make you lose fat?
GLP-1–based injections such as Wegovy (semaglutide), Ozempic (semaglutide), Mounjaro (tirzepatide), and Saxenda (liraglutide)
are widely used because they are highly effective for weight loss and diabetes treatment.
But recently, unexpected changes have been reported after using these medications.
A woman who had not been menstruating becomes pregnant...?
A man feels that the appearance of his genitals has become larger...?
In fact, the term “Ozempic Baby” is being shared on social media and YouTube.
On Facebook, the group saying “I got pregnant with Ozempic” has grown to more than 700 members.
For people who have been waiting to get pregnant, this may be welcome news,
but an unplanned pregnancy can naturally be a significant physical and psychological burden.
As a doctor, I also wanted to understand why this happens, so I looked into it.

I looked up the related research, and here’s what I found?!
- Weight loss = restoration of hormonal balance
Women with obesity often have difficulty becoming pregnant because of ovulation problems.
There are studies showing that when BMI is 27 or higher, the chance of pregnancy drops by more than threefold.
But GLP-1–based injections bring changes to the body.
As weight decreases, hormones normalize → menstrual irregularity improves → ovulation becomes possible again → the chance of pregnancy increases!!
- Improved PCOS (polycystic ovary syndrome)
GLP-1 receptor agonists also help lower insulin resistance → and improve ovarian function.
Accordingly, observational findings suggest they may help with natural ovulation in patients with PCOS.
- Reduced effect of birth control pills
Some studies say GLP-1 injections reduce the blood concentration of birth control pills by an average of 20–60%.
With absorption delays of about 2.5 to 4.5 hours, the medication’s effect may weaken.
Therefore, even if you are using contraception, you should be careful because an unplanned pregnancy can still occur.

Ozempic and changes in male genitalia
Is it real?
On Reddit and other overseas communities,
surprising cases are being shared, such as “After starting Ozempic, it grew by 1 inch (about 2.5 cm).”
In fact, the average length reported in the UK also increased by about 10%, from 13.1 cm in 2022 to 14.3 cm in 2024.
“When obesity increases abdominal fat, the genitals can appear shorter,
and when weight is lost, the exposed length increases, creating an optical illusion that makes them seem larger.”
(Professor Richard Venn, Urology, Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham)
“After weight loss, genitals that were buried in fat may show improvement in both function and appearance in several aspects.”
But if you are planning to get pregnant,
please stop using obesity injection medications!
All medications have ‘side effects and risks.’
Semaglutide-based medications are prohibited during pregnancy.
You should stop taking the medication at least 2 months before trying to conceive.
In animal studies, malformations and growth delays were confirmed,
but a recent JAMA study found no significant increase in congenital malformations in human studies.
So a prescription is definitely needed after consultation with a specialist!
Changes beyond weight loss require enough understanding and consultation first.
GLP-1–based medications are being reported to have effects beyond weight loss.
-
Restoration of women’s fertility
-
Changes in the appearance of male genitalia
But these effects vary greatly from person to person, and clear evidence is still lacking.
Therefore, medication selection and use must always be carried out after 충분한 consultation with medical professionals.
Consultations, comments, and adding mutual neighbors are always welcome!
