Hello, I am Dr. Ho-san Park, director of Changwon Hana Dental Clinic.
After working as the lead dentist at Apgujeong Su Dental Hospital for five years and treating approximately 5,000 veneers and implants, I returned this year to Changwon Hana Dental Clinic, which my parents have operated for 39 years, and began practicing here. I completed periodontal training at Columbia University College of Dental Medicine in the United States and received board certification from the American Board of Periodontology (ABP).
Today, for those who may be considering veneers in Changwon, I would like to introduce a black triangle improvement case that I personally treated during my time in Apgujeong.
- What Is a Black Triangle?
A black triangle refers to the dark, empty-looking space that appears between the front teeth as the gums recede upward. It can create an unattractive impression by making a person look older, and it is especially noticeable when it develops between the central front teeth.
The main treatment objective in the case I am introducing today was to improve the black triangles. The patient also wanted to brighten the overall shade of their teeth. Because a large portion of the teeth was visible when smiling, we placed a total of 10 veneers, from premolar to premolar, and also performed professional teeth whitening. The total treatment period was three days.

- How Is the Procedure Performed?
Because the teeth in this case were relatively well aligned, we only made minimal adjustments using a dental operating microscope, with the goal of preserving as much of the natural tooth structure as possible. In fact, this could reasonably be considered an almost no-prep veneer case. The photos below show the sequence of before treatment, after tooth preparation, and treatment completion. The gums appearing dark in the middle photo are due to gingival retraction, which is performed to obtain a high-quality scan and impression; it is removed after the impression is taken.

The patient was very satisfied with the result, saying that they had regained a much more confident smile.
The shade was HTBL1, and the material used was e.max CAD by Ivoclar, one of the materials I prefer most. It is a material with more than 10 years of well-established data supporting its translucency, high strength, and strong bonding with natural teeth. The 10-year survival rate of e.max CAD veneers has been reported to be very high, at 95–97%.
For the adhesive, we used RelyX Veneer in B0.5 shade by Solventum (formerly 3M). This shade was not overly opaque, allowing the natural teeth to show through subtly while adding a more natural appearance.
Professional teeth whitening was performed on the lower teeth to reduce the difference in shade somewhat.
- Are There Any Other Options?
Of course. If the goal is simply to fill the spaces slightly, there are simpler options such as composite resin restorations. The area can also be reinforced with procedures such as gum grafting or gum fillers. If I have the opportunity, I will post a case in which black triangles were addressed with a Bioclear composite resin restoration in a future article.
The principles of veneers do not change, whether in Apgujeong or Changwon. At Changwon Hana Dental Clinic, you can receive careful treatment according to the same standards.
