Domestic passport service agencies, diplomatic missions abroad, Government 24, Consular Civil Service 24

※ In the case of minors, online reissuance applications are not allowed.

※ Reissuance due to correction or change of information printed in the passport, loss or damage of the passport, or administrative agency error is only possible by in-person application. (Online applications not allowed)

How to apply for passport reissuance due to expiration of validity period (age 18 or older)

Passport reissuance due to expiration of validity period is possible for the following reasons.

Reasons for reissuance

· When the validity period of the passport you hold has expired and you are applying for a new passport

· When you apply for a new passport of your own accord before the validity period expires

How long does passport reissuance take?

The processing time is the same for online applications and in-person issuance.

It takes about 5 business days.

However, in the case of an online passport reissuance application, nighttime applications are also possible, so same-day review may not be available, which means it may take about one day longer than the original passport issuance date.

How many months before expiration should you renew your passport?

According to government guidelines, notice of passport expiration will be sent to passport holders 6 months before the passport expires.

Going forward, it is expected that the number of situations where people have to turn back at the airport because their remaining passport validity is insufficient will decrease.
