Bromhidrosis is a condition in which sweat secreted by the apocrine glands in the underarms combines with bacteria and causes an unpleasant odor. These glands become more active after puberty, and genetic factors have a major influence. Patients with bromhidrosis often also experience hyperhidrosis.

Hyperhidrosis is a condition in which excessive sweat is secreted in the underarms and can interfere with daily life. It also has a strong genetic component and may worsen due to stress or emotional stimuli. Like patients with bromhidrosis, those with hyperhidrosis may also have an unpleasant odor.

What causes unpleasant underarm sweat odor?
