Bromhidrosis refers to a condition in which an unusual odor is caused by an abnormality in the sweat glands of the underarm area. There are two types of sweat glands, eccrine glands and apocrine glands, and bromhidrosis is mainly caused by excessive or abnormal secretion from the apocrine glands.
Sweat secreted by the apocrine glands is originally sterile and odorless, but as it is broken down by gram-positive bacteria on the skin surface, fatty acids and ammonia are produced, creating an unpleasant odor.

Bromhidrosis is said to affect about 10% of Koreans, and because genetics play a strong role, if even one parent has bromhidrosis, the child’s likelihood of having it is more than 50%.
Bromhidrosis can occur regardless of the season, but symptoms become more severe in summer because the higher temperatures cause more sweating. Even in winter, symptoms can worsen when indoor temperatures rise due to heating, so caution is needed.

In winter, lower temperature and humidity reduce sweat production, but bromhidrosis patients may actually experience worse symptoms.
"Why bromhidrosis symptoms worsen even in winter"
<Increased indoor activity>
In winter, people spend longer periods indoors because of the cold weather. As a result, indoor temperatures rise, and because people wear thicker clothing, ventilation becomes difficult, which can worsen bromhidrosis symptoms.

<Dry skin>
In winter, dry weather makes the skin more likely to become dry. This increases dead skin cells in the underarm area and creates an environment where bacteria can proliferate more easily, which can lead to bromhidrosis.
<Stress>
Stress is one of the causes of bromhidrosis. In winter, stress may increase because of year-end and New Year gatherings, job preparation, and other factors, which can worsen bromhidrosis symptoms.

Because of these situations, bromhidrosis symptoms do not necessarily improve just because it is winter, and treatment through an active bromhidrosis removal method may be needed.

SIT surgery is a method for removing bromhidrosis, and unlike conventional surgical methods, it is performed through a small incision of about 3 mm. Through this incision, specially designed instruments are used to remove the apocrine glands.
It is drawing attention as a method that compensates for the shortcomings of existing surgeries while maximizing their advantages.
- Short surgery time: The procedure takes less than one hour, so busy office workers can undergo surgery without much burden.

-
Low recurrence rate: It has a recurrence rate in the 1% range, which can be said to be almost negligible. This is a significantly lower figure than other surgical methods such as laser and ultrasound.
-
Fast recovery: Light daily activities are possible 3 to 5 days after surgery, and showering is allowed after 2 weeks.
If odor still persists or you feel discomfort even after surgery, please visit the clinic immediately for consultation. You can receive additional treatment or advice.

Because bromhidrosis can cause major stress in forming relationships and in social life, it is advisable to receive active treatment if the symptoms are severe.
SIT surgery is one of the bromhidrosis removal methods that can help with bromhidrosis, but the appropriate surgical method may differ depending on the individual’s symptoms, so please choose the proper treatment method through consultation with a specialist.
