If excessive surgery has caused functional or structural problems with the eyes, let’s address them with reconstructive canthoplasty at Wink Plastic Surgery!

Reconstructive canthoplasty is a procedure that improves eyes that have become unnatural because canthoplasty was performed too aggressively, leaving them looking unsightly or exposing too much of the mucosa, by restoring them to their natural position.

If the inner corner of the eye was overdone, the lacrimal caruncle becomes overly exposed, and a sunken scar or hook-shaped scar may appear. If the outer corner of the eye was overdone, the outer eye corner may not look clean and may become deformed into a “ㄷ” shape, or the conjunctiva may become red and exposed, leaving significant scarring.

Reconstructive canthoplasty is suitable for people whose eyes have excessive canthoplasty that has led to red conjunctiva, excessive exposure of the lacrimal caruncle, or severe scarring. It is also suitable for people with pain, severe dry eye symptoms, or asymmetry.

Reconstructive surgery closes overly widened spaces and uses the skin around the previous surgical site. Inner corner reconstructive surgery closes the existing canthoplasty on the medial canthus side and is performed while considering the shape and line of the epicanthic fold. Outer corner reconstructive surgery removes the scar at the outer corner of the eye and the exposed mucosa, then pulls the lateral canthal ligament up to the brow bone and secures it in place.

Canthoplasty is a procedure that involves delicate and detailed manipulation, so it must be performed after precise analysis. Reconstructive canthoplasty is also a surgery that creates a new structure using the remaining tissue, so it is important to receive treatment from an experienced specialist.

In revision eye surgery, it is most important to understand your current condition and the cause. Although the eyes may look fine from the outside, the internal tissue and muscles may still need time to stabilize. Therefore, it is best to proceed with revision surgery at least six months after the first surgery, after observing the swelling and line shape settling into place.
