What is lower blepharoplasty? It is a surgery that removes sagging fat pockets caused by a loss of skin elasticity as you age, helping you achieve a more lively and brighter impression.

- Many people think lower blepharoplasty and under-eye fat repositioning are the same procedure. While they share the common goal of reducing or repositioning under-eye fat, they differ in whether skin is removed. Under-eye fat repositioning is suitable for younger people whose aging has not progressed much and who do not have sagging; it deals only with the fat itself without removing skin. Lower blepharoplasty, however, is suitable for people in their 40s and older whose aging has already progressed significantly and who have pronounced under-eye sagging and looseness; it removes skin and secures the fascia.

Because younger people still have skin elasticity, under-eye fat repositioning reshapes the fat’s form and position without making an incision. For middle-aged and older adults who need wrinkles and fat to be removed due to aging, lower blepharoplasty can improve the eye area to a more lively look by making an incision in the skin.

- Many people worry that lower blepharoplasty will leave a scar. Because the incision is made as close as possible to the lower eyelid, it appears not as a scar but only as a line along the lower eyelid. It may look red at first, but over time it becomes more natural.

- Lower blepharoplasty does remove fat, but it removes the fat in the under-eye area directly below the aegyo-sal, so it does not artificially reduce the amount of aegyo-sal and does not change its volume.

- You may wonder whether the area will sag again over time even after lower blepharoplasty. Sagging can naturally occur again due to aging after surgery, but because the muscle is pulled and fixed in place, it can help slow the usual pace of aging.

- Dark circles are a condition that makes the under-eye area look hollow and tired. Lower blepharoplasty is not very effective for improving dark circles, but if the dark circles are caused by shadows from bulging fat under the eyes, they can be improved.
