For those whose eyes have been overly opened due to a previous epicanthoplasty, making the red inner tissue at the inner corner of the eye clearly visible, epicanthoplasty revision may be worth considering.

Hello, this is Chief Director Choi from Wink Plastic Surgery. Today, I’ll talk about epicanthoplasty revision.

In some cases, people want to improve an impression that looks too strong or too flashy because the inner corner tissue (the red flesh) has been excessively exposed after a previous epicanthoplasty or upper epicanthoplasty procedure. In such cases, epicanthoplasty revision may be considered.

Then, in what cases is epicanthoplasty revision possible? First, there should be enough skin around the eyelids, and there should be little scarring in that skin. In the end, epicanthoplasty revision means bringing in surrounding skin to recreate the existing skin fold called the Mongolian fold, so there must be enough skin material available, and it should be high-quality skin with little scarring.

What methods are used for epicanthoplasty revision? Depending on the extent of the revision, a Z-flap method or a skin rearrangement method may be used.

Then what is the recovery period like? Typically, stitches are removed at the one-week mark, and around one month later, the scar may become firmer and redder, so you should expect at least 3–6 months. However, from the second week onward, makeup and similar activities are possible, so daily life is not greatly affected.

That concludes our look at epicanthoplasty revision.
