Hello, I’m Director Choi Seung-hyeop of Wink Plastic Surgery. Today’s topic is natural adhesion double eyelids. Among what are commonly called non-incisional double eyelid surgery methods, there are broadly two types: the buried suture method, which has been widely performed in the past, and the natural adhesion method.

What is the difference between the two? The natural adhesion method is also a non-incisional procedure, just like the buried suture method, but it differs in that some tissue is removed through small holes to create stronger adhesion than the buried suture method. Therefore, the buried suture method is not performed very often these days.

The advantages of the natural adhesion method are, first of all, minimal scarring and quick recovery. Because there is no incision and the surgical area is small, swelling is generally less and scarring is almost nonexistent. Another advantage is that there is no inconvenience of having to return later to have stitches removed.

Then who is suitable for natural adhesion? In general, people with thin skin, little sagging, and relatively good eyelid-opening strength are good candidates for natural adhesion. If the skin is too thick, it may loosen without strong fixation, so an incisional method is more suitable. If there is a lot of skin sagging, it needs to be properly removed, which also makes the incisional method more suitable. If the eyelid-opening strength is significantly insufficient, that is, if there is ptosis, effective correction is possible only with incisional ptosis correction.

Are there any drawbacks to natural adhesion? There are no particular drawbacks, but in people with significant skin sagging or thick skin, there is a risk of the crease loosening, so choosing the appropriate surgical method can help avoid this.

That concludes our look at the natural adhesion double eyelid surgery method.
