Hello, this is Director Choi Seung-hyeop of Wink Plastic Surgery. Today’s topic is upper eyelid fat repositioning. You may have heard of repositioning fat to make the under-eye area look flatter when the fat there becomes puffy, but upper eyelid fat may be a bit less familiar.

Upper eyelid fat repositioning refers to adding volume to an upper eyelid that lacks fullness. If there is little fat in the upper eyelid, it can make you look older and sleepy. Unlike upper eyelid fat grafting, this method improves volume by evenly spreading out the existing fat located beneath the eyelid skin. An advantage is that it does not require fat to be taken from another area for grafting, but a drawback is that the effect may be limited in severe cases.

Upper eyelid fat repositioning can be performed at the same time as incisional double eyelid surgery, and it can improve a sunken appearance and help reduce an older or sleepy impression.

However, for severely sunken eyelids, fat repositioning alone may not be enough, and fat grafting may be necessary.

Fat grafting is explained in more detail in the dedicated fat grafting post, so please refer to that.
