Hello, I’m Dr. Choi Seung-hyeop, director of Wink Plastic Surgery Clinic. Today’s topic is what to consider when undergoing revision eye surgery. In general, there seem to be two main reasons people consider revision eyelid surgery. The first is dissatisfaction with the shape, and the second is loosening.

Among cases of dissatisfaction with the shape, many seem to involve the size of the double eyelids (making them larger or smaller). To go into more detail, making the double eyelids larger can usually be done with a non-incisional method, but if there is a lot of skin sagging, an incisional method may be considered. Next, when making the double eyelids smaller, a new double eyelid must be created at a lower position than the existing one, so the surgery must be performed using an incisional method.

To explain loosening of the double eyelids, there are several conditions that can cause the eyelids to loosen. First, thick skin or fatty tissue is the biggest cause. If this is excessively severe, there may be limits to improving the loosening, but in most cases, it can be resolved by properly creating the double eyelids through an incisional method. Second, if ptosis is present, addressing it at the same time during revision surgery can further improve the loosening phenomenon.

In addition, inner corner surgery or upper corner surgery may also be considered together during revision eye surgery, so it would be good to discuss these as well during the consultation.

When looking into revision eye surgery, it is most important to accurately understand your own eyes, and I believe that performing surgery accordingly can lead to satisfying results.

That concludes our look at revision eye surgery.
