Hello, this is Director Choi Seung-hyeop of Wink Plastic Surgery. The topic we will look at today is the types of double eyelids. Double eyelids also come in various shapes, and the shape that suits each person often differs. Let’s take a look at what types of double eyelids there are and the characteristics of each type.

Double eyelid types can first be divided by thickness or shape.
Double eyelids are generally classified into three types according to size and shape: inline, in-out line, and outline (semi-outline). Let’s take a closer look at each one.

First, let’s look at the inline, a natural thin line. The inline is suitable for people who do not prefer a prominently visible double eyelid and want a natural impression, those who want the surgery to look less obvious, or those with thick skin for whom a large double eyelid feels burdensome. It is a shape commonly seen in East Asians who are born with natural double eyelids, and its characteristic is that it looks very natural.

The second type is the outline, or semi-outline. The characteristics of an outline double eyelid are that it generally has more thickness, the entire line is visible from the front to the back, and the double eyelid is relatively uniform in thickness overall. It is suitable for people who prefer a more glamorous impression or those who want their double eyelids to stand out clearly. However, if the skin is excessively thick, creating a double eyelid as an outline may give the line a puffy appearance, the so-called “sausage eye,” so caution is needed. Also, in the case of Western people, most have an outline, so it can be said to suit those who want a Western-looking impression.

Lastly, there is the in-out line, which is the most preferred in East Asia. The characteristics of an in-out double eyelid are that the double eyelid line is visible from the front to the back overall, but unlike an inline, the front part is not thick, and unlike an outline, it gradually becomes thicker toward the back. Because the line follows the shape of the eye and becomes thicker, it also has the added effect of making the eyes look longer. It is also the line that best suits East Asians, including Koreans, and many celebrities also have in-out lines.
