Hello. This is Woori Plastic Surgery.
Under-eye fat repositioning is a procedure that flattens bulging under-eyes and fills in sunken areas, helping to make the expression look clearer. But did you know that just as important as the surgery itself is going to a place that does under-eye fat repositioning well? Today, I’ll organize the things you must do and must avoid after under-eye fat repositioning surgery.
Care Methods

- Keep your upper body elevated
After surgery at a place that does under-eye fat repositioning well, you should sleep with your upper body slightly raised. Think of the position of sleeping while seated in an economy class airplane seat. Sleeping with your upper body elevated can greatly help prevent swelling.
- Ice compresses
On the day of surgery and for the first few days, it is good to apply ice compresses frequently. However, if fat grafting was performed at the same time, you may be advised to avoid ice compresses because of concerns about graft survival.
- Light walking
From the day after surgery, it is fine to walk lightly at home. Light walking actually helps blood circulation and is effective in reducing swelling.
Actions to Avoid

- Do not apply direct pressure
It is absolutely forbidden to touch or rub the under-eye surgical area firmly.
- Face washing / showering
On the day of surgery, it is best to wash only lightly with lukewarm water. Hot water can expand blood vessels and worsen swelling. Please also avoid bending your head down to wash your hair.
- Makeup / contact lenses
It is best to avoid under-eye makeup and wearing contact lenses for at least one week.
- Exercise / sauna / swimming
You should avoid strenuous exercise that raises body heat, hot baths, and saunas for at least one month. For swimming, it is safer to rest for more than 6 weeks because of the pressure from swim goggles.
- Smoking and drinking
Smoking delays wound healing, and drinking alcohol causes blood vessels to expand and worsens swelling. At least one month of no smoking and no drinking is necessary.

Even if the surgery is performed at a place that does under-eye fat repositioning well, 80% of a successful under-eye fat repositioning result depends on the doctor’s skill, and the remaining 20% depends on the patient’s care. It is important to have the surgery done at a place that does under-eye fat repositioning well, but please remember that post-surgery care determines the result!
