Hello, this is Woori Plastic Surgery.
Today, we would like to explain the difference between abdominoplasty and abdominal liposuction, which many people often confuse. Shall we take a look at the cases where abdominoplasty is needed?
Abdominal Liposuction

Abdominal liposuction is, as the name suggests, a procedure that removes only fat while leaving the skin intact. Therefore, abdominal liposuction is suitable for patients whose skin elasticity is still somewhat good, who do not have much excess skin, and who do not have severe stretch marks. If liposuction alone can sufficiently improve the abdominal contour, it can be a good option.
Abdominoplasty

If a large amount of fat is removed after abdominal liposuction and skin is left behind, especially when the skin is significantly stretched or the stretch marks are severe, it may be difficult to achieve satisfying results with simple suction alone. In such cases, what is needed is abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty does not simply remove fat; it also excises the remaining skin and stretched tissue, allowing for a much firmer and smoother contour.
Abdominoplasty + Liposuction

In actual consultations, there are often cases where abdominoplasty is needed because there is a lot of excess skin, but the patient still wants liposuction only. However, in such cases, even if abdominoplasty is performed later, the results may still be disappointing. Therefore, it is best to accurately analyze the body shape from the beginning and, when necessary, combine abdominoplasty with liposuction for the highest level of satisfaction.
If skin elasticity is good and there is little excess skin, abdominal liposuction alone can produce satisfying results. However, if the skin is significantly loose and there are many stretch marks, we recommend abdominoplasty or combining abdominoplasty with liposuction. Before choosing abdominoplasty, you should consult with a specialist with extensive experience in body contouring surgery and make your decision after receiving an accurate diagnosis.
