Hello. We are Woori Plastic Surgery.
When there is an area that does not slim down even with exercise, or when it gets in the way of wearing clothes with a flattering silhouette, people start considering arm liposuction. However, when they come in for a consultation, many people ask whether their body type is suitable for liposuction. In fact, if you want a noticeable difference before and after arm liposuction, the results vary greatly depending on body type, so it is important to understand your own type accurately. Today, we will organize liposuction suitability based on four representative body types.
Overweight Type

This refers to a case where a person has significant body weight and the main cause is a large amount of fat. To see a large difference before and after arm liposuction, there must be enough fat that can be removed, and the overweight type meets that condition, so whole-body line changes appear clearly. This is the most ideal type, as noticeable changes can be expected across the entire body shape, including the abdomen, flanks, and thighs.
Bulky Fat Type

This refers to a case where the overall body is on the thinner side, but only certain areas such as the back of the arms, inner thighs, lower abdomen, or back flanks do not slim down easily. This type has fat that is difficult to resolve with exercise or diet control alone. Rather than weight change, these are people who want practical body-shape improvement, and arm liposuction can provide the cleanest line refinement before and after.
Skinny Fat Type

This refers to someone who appears thin on the outside but has a high body fat percentage on InBody measurement. Since they often have low exercise levels and reduced skin elasticity, removing a large amount of fat at once can increase the possibility of skin sagging. In particular, the abdomen often contains more visceral fat than subcutaneous fat, so the effect of liposuction alone may be limited. In this case, it is safer to consider elasticity treatment or lifestyle improvements together rather than performing liposuction alone.
Muscular Type

Let’s look at the case where a person weighs a lot but has a high amount of muscle mass. Because there is little fat and the amount that can be removed is limited, it is difficult to expect a significant difference before and after arm liposuction. If you try to remove all the fat forcefully, the risk of side effects such as bleeding and seroma may actually increase, so it is not recommended.
To determine which type you belong to, it is necessary to undergo body measurements such as InBody analysis along with a specialist’s physical examination. Even if people look similar on the outside, fat distribution, skin elasticity, and muscle mass are all different. Liposuction is not simply a procedure to reduce fat, but a process of sculpting the line, so a plan tailored to your body type is more important than anything else.
